Trade Idea w/ Rockies

Featured Replies

The Rockies have a catcher at AAA called J.D. Closser that is a pretty decent prospect. He has a .283 BA the past 2 seasons w/ an average of 13 HR's. This year he is batting over .300 and the guy doesnt strike out alot either. Charles Johnson makes this guy expendable and should be considered if we trade Darren Oliver back to Colorado.

If I'm the Rockies, CJ is expendable before this guy. CJ is beat and not what he used to be and is costing a bundle. No one wants CJ unless the Rockies pay his entire salary. :lol

Charles Johnson C COL Signed Dec 2000 - 5 years/$35M

2004: $9.0M

2005: $9.0M

-Includes complete no-trade clause between 2001 and 2004

-If traded 2005 salary rises to $10.0M

Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe it isn't as crazy as I thought.

Hampton is still on our books for 10 mil this year and 11 mil next year. If we trade them Castro, Oliver and a good pitching prospect for CJ and a good RP, maybe they'd eat the rest of CJ's contract or we take his contract and ship them back the majority of what we owe Hampton. Perhaps CJ was waive the million dollar trade bonus for a chance at a ring with the Marlins.

Does anyone know how CJ has played away from Coors this year and how his D still is? I haven't seen much on him other than highlights on Baseball Tonight in a while.

Suprisingly, Johnson has the same number of hits, Home Runs, and RBI's on the road and at home.

On the road, his AVG is lower, has 3 more K's, 3 more walks, scored 5 less runs, and has a lower OBP, SLG, and OPS.

Kind of uneven.

Wow, I'm surprised. I figured his number were inflated because of Colorado. If Colorado would either eat his entire contract or even it out taking back most of Hampton's, perhaps we could make a deal with them to fix our C and RP problems. They may be the only front office that thinks Oliver can help them. :lol

How about we get Jason Jennings also in return. :D Thats not really a bad offer if you dont consider money. The FO will go for a cost effective alternative. If the Rocks pay most of the salary then it could happen.

No thanks. Treanor has a .280 AVG with 6HR in only 130+ ABs at AAA Albequerque. Why would we make a lateral move?

People, the catching situation is NOT that bad. Be patient. We are 30-22 right now, and playing well enough to win. Treanor will be what we need - good defense with solid offense.

its funny.

most were wanting CJ gone and never to return.

now some actually want him back?

i dont get it.

Neither do I. CJ is still CJ - but who couldnt hit at Coors? Burnitz?! CMON! I remember Leyland hit a ball out with a fungo bat tossing it to himself onetime!
