College Player or HS Player?

Featured Replies

Oh, and if we do take Street or any other college reliever I sure hope they don't rush him to the majors in less than a year.

The thing about Gonzalez is he is immature. What happened with last year's first round draft pick? Oh yeah, that's right.

I dont know him personally but some of my friends do and they say he isnt immature and the problems hes had at Hialeah High and Pace were because of his brother Max who defintely is immature.

I dont think anyone is saying hes the best pitcher in the draft or the best pitcher out of high school.

But I doubt he is over-rated. He pitches in the low 90's and has a nasty curveball and this is not me being biased. Baseball America rated him as having the best breaking ball pitch from all of the High School pitchers in the draft.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him. But if Street is on the table I think you have to side with Street on this one, because of team situation and because he'll do alot more for the team alot sooner. Gio won't be ready for 3 years at best. Though that might not be too bad for us, since chances are we'll lose one starter by then.

I would love the Marlins to draft Gio, his worked out with the Marlins, and the Yankees. He was supposed to go work out with the Twins, D-Rays and Dodgers and didnt go to any of those. He only worked with the Marlins and Yankees. There are rumors the Yankees were tryig to lock him in.

Yes, he is not the problem in the clubhouse. It's his brother Max. The problem he had at Hialeah was because of his brother when he told Coach Matri " Go to hell with this sorry ass team and f*** you and this school". Then they had to transfer from Hialeah to Pace and his brother messed him up there too.

The Age Old debate...

Well, I agree with NC Marlin and PBMarlin - we need to go the college route with pitchers. Why? WELLL>>>

1) More likely to get to the bigs - physically and mentally more developed with a bigger sampling size of their talent. Physically and mentally more matured thanks to their college educations and require less time and $$$ from us to gamble on them. A more complete picture.

2) Cheaper to develop - per the reasons stated above AND they will spend less time in the minors getting polished because, well, they are already pretty much polished. You may not have as much upside, but you have a more polished product ready out of the box.

As for this franchise's direction, going the college makes more sense because we are more likely to get talent to the big club and they are more likely to be a commodity to be traded/kept and they are cheaper to develop. Plus, they will refill our farm system much faster which is another plus for us.

But for position players, I am all for going for the best talent. :lol

Is Street Graduating College as a Senior?

He could be on a ryan wagner type path for the Marlins. If the bullpen is a mess.

No he's a Junior. I'm pretty sure he'll sign with whoever picks him though.
