June 8, 200422 yr I was just browsing eBay for expensive sports memorabilia and came across this amazing item, an actual 1996 Yankees World Series ring: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4135900682&rd=1 It says the ring was owned by a coach that played 20 years himself in the big leagues, so i'm sure we could narrow it down and figure out who owns it. I remember reading somewhere that selling your world series ring, awards or trophies you've won such as gold gloves, silver sluggers, etc. is grounds to be banned from baseball, so I imagine the player/coach selling this ring is taking a big risk and correct me if i'm wrong but isn't each ring personalized with the player or coaches name on them? If that ring costs 30k, then a 2003 Marlins ring has got to be at least 60k .
June 8, 200422 yr Thats interesting. The Marlins' ring may be more "tricked out", but I prefer the Yankee's basic one. I think the Marlins' ring is kinda ugly.

The 1996 Yankees one for sale looks like a cheapo ring that would be given away for free in a promotion for a game or something, just a generic ring and doesn't look like anything great, the Marlins ring on the other hand is very unique and something special that everyone will recognize... from 3 miles away .
June 8, 200422 yr i remember a 1997 marlins ring belonging to someone in the front office being on ebay.
June 8, 200422 yr i remember a 1997 marlins ring belonging to someone in the front office being on ebay. it was stolen from the then head of SportsChannel Florida's (now FSN Florida) home and sold on eBay. It was recentley recovered and returned to it's rightful owner.

June 8, 200422 yr i would have to be starving and on the verge of being homeless to sell a championship ring if i ever had one.
June 8, 200422 yr Author i would have to be starving and on the verge of being homeless to sell a championship ring if i ever had one. haha, all the people at the Marlins game a few weeks ago were killing each other over a crappy little 2 dollar plastic replica ring, imagine what it would be like if they were handing out real ones.
June 8, 200422 yr s***, i regularly wear my ring. i feel i earned it for loving them for as long as i have despite all the negative bulls***. if i had actually won the real ring you would have to cut off my dead cold gripped finger to take it off.

June 8, 200422 yr I don't see why anyone would want to be someone else's rings or trophies or anything for that matter. Obviously already chewed gum and the like is just extremely ridiculous.

June 8, 200422 yr It's probably zimmer's ring... Well Zimmer only played like 11 years in the bigs so I don't think that's the case.
June 8, 200422 yr It's probably zimmer's ring... :lol :lol :lol Was Zimmer even part of the Yankees coaches in 1996? And didn't the Braves win the World Series that year? Or was that 95'?

June 8, 200422 yr Was Zimmer even part of the Yankees coaches in 1996? "Zimmer joined the New York Yankees as Joe Torre's bench coach in 1996." Link

If someone does end up buying it, i'm sure it will be someone that already owns a massive sports memorabilia collection or some sort of sports museum, I doubt an actual Yankee fan will buy it and wear it. The guy who owns that Sports Immortals museum in Boca seems like the type of person who would buy this ring and then display it in the museum.
June 9, 200422 yr Look at the other things this dude has sold in the past (that the links are still there for). A body massager and some GPS mapping software. Huh?!?! This one is screaming scam/fraud/counterfeit. :thumbdown those are things he bought I think. It says he won those auctions.
