Craig
i know this will be held against me if he pitches well but...... I have a feeling, based on the way Beckett pitches, the fact he's coming off an injury, and the fact that the Sox were shut out in game 2, that Beckett is going to have problems in this game. Just a hunch, and we really need this game. Winning 2 of 3 in Florida would be huge for us. Should be a good game.
rferry
Nope. Had you guys swept the Phillies we would have gone easy on you. Beckett's pitching 8 innings of no-hit ball tomorrow before he's thrown out for being superhuman. Mike Lowell contributes with 2 home runs and heck even WTFNUNEZ reaches bases on an error. QuickGold
Yahoo! Sports Game Preview Josh Beckett hopes his blister problems are a thing of the past. Beckett will make his first start since coming of the disabled list as the Florida Marlins finish up their three-game series against the Chicago White Sox. The World Series MVP was placed on the DL on May 31 after lasting just 2 2-3 innings against the New York Mets in his last start the day before. The Marlins have been very cautious with Beckett's return, especially since blister problems put the right-hander on the DL three times in 2002. Beckett, who is 4-4 with a 4.06 ERA in 11 starts this season, would like to avoid a recurring problem like he had two years ago, when he experimented with a variety of treatments. He rubbed rice between fingers, tried about a dozen different ointments and even soaked his finger in pickle juice. He made it through last season without a blister problem. ``We thought we had it licked,'' Beckett said. ``But these things manifest themselves whenever they want.'' The Marlins hope Beckett can bounce back from his blister woes and give them the kind production that they have gotten from Carl Pavano. Pavano pitched a three-hitter Wednesday to give Florida a 4-0 victory over the White Sox. Pavano won his third consecutive start and picked up his second career shutout. Pavano ended Carlos Lee's hitting streak at 28 games. Lee's streak was a team record for Chicago and the longest in the majors this season. ``Every streak is going to end,'' White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. ``It was a joy to watch. He helped us win a lot of games during that time. Maybe he'll go back out there and start a new one.'' Lee went 0-for-4 against Pavano with a groundout, two strikeouts and a flyout. He struck out in the ninth on a high fastball. ``Anytime you do something like this, it's nice to look back on,'' said Lee. ``I'm sure I'll be able to do that at some point, but not right now. ... I'm not disappointed or upset. I gave it a nice run, and it finally ended. That's about it.''
