ESPN's Top 25 Worst Teams ever

Featured Replies

I dont know who caught the show but they listed our Fish in the top 10 and I for one want to forget that team and that smug Huizenga saying he needed to take a step back. I really dont want to dredge up old memories but I still remember winning the first game against the Cubs 10-4 i think. Who was on that team pre-trades that season?

Some year of the Prairie View A&M football team that lost an awful lot of games.

1998 opener we beat the Cubs 11-6...WP-Livan

LF-Floyd

SS-Renteria

1B-Ryan Jackson

RF-Shefield

CF-Kotsay

C-Johnson

2B-Counsell

3B-Booty

P-Hernandez

att.:41,126

Wow...looking back at that...Ryan jackson third??? Cliffy leading off???? Josh Booty.....wow....how bout the lineup from the last game, it'd be interesting to see the changes. I'll forever miss Counsell and Cliffy.

That team also had Preston Wilson (.065 in 14 games), Luis Castillo (.203), Alex Gonzalez (.151), and Derrek Lee (.233). The saves leader for the year was Matt Mantei with 9! Only 1 pitcher of the 22 who pitched that year had a winning record-Brian Edmonson with a 4-3 record.

At the end of the season, the starters were Floyd, Dunwoody, and Kotsay in the outfield, Orie, Renteria, Castillo, and Lee on the infield, and Randy Knorr or Greg Zaun behind the plate.

The first five games of the season, the starting pitchers were Livan Hernandez, Felix Heredia, Rafael Medina, Eric Ludwick, and Brian Meadows.

Ah, memories.

What did you expect? 1998 was a complete embarrassment for baseball and for South Florida. You really think they would just forget about it?

But last year's team, made that entire ordeal seem like just a small bump in the road :thumbup

The first five games of the season, the starting pitchers were Livan Hernandez, Felix Heredia, Rafael Medina, Eric Ludwick, and Brian Meadows.

Ah, memories.

Don't forget Alfonseca, he had a rotation spot for a good part of '98...

There was a lot of the inexplicable about that team. Wayne's budget issue was all bulls***.

The team could have saved more than $10 in payroll from 1997 to 1998 and kept a World Series competitor. $15 mil would have been saved with by losing White and Daulton and Fernandez' insurance money, some of which would have been spent on Johnson's arbitration.

I still get pissed off about that horsecrap

All in the past. Besides, you can thank our World Championship last year because of that fire sale. Some of the players who were on that team last year(and this year) were brought over during that time.

I had forgotten that Alex Fernandez didn't play in the '98 season, but came back during the '99 season. He was one of the good ones :(

It's sad when you think of all the young talented players who never recovered after being thrown to the wolves.

i was 8 during the '98 season and i still remember all the BS that happened... it was sad but look what it turned out to be....

Penny - via D'Backs.

Burnett - thanks Mets!

Beckett - #2 overall pick BECAUSE of the '98 teams 'accomplishments'.

That is just the beginning...

The Penny trade wasn't part of the "firesale"

i remember i used to like rafael medina a lot. he had a very good fastball and a nasty curveball. then one day his arm went dead and that was it.

a lot of those guys were rushed and didn't have enough time to develop and failed because of it.

i was 8 during the '98 season and i still remember all the BS that happened... it was sad but look what it turned out to be....

i was 13 it hurt and cant even belive how far we have come and who we aer today and what we did last year....... but plz i dont wanna eb reminded of 98 that and 02 summer was very hard for me.......

the 02 summer was brutal! not even p***y could cheer me up that summa..... they broke my heart when they traded Ryan Dumpster "any1 remember that bum?" and Floyd.....

i think that was harder for me than 98 cuz in 98 i knew w hat to expect but in 02 i thought we were capiable of doing what we did in 03.......

On opeing day the marlins had gary sheffield bobby bo, cj, lee, castillo, renteria, mark kotsay, and cliff floyd on it, and livan hernmendez and alex fernendez in the rotation, doesnt sound likle the 7th worst team ever

Alex was hurt man
