June 24, 200422 yr ESPN reported that Pat met with laker officials ... but that nothing would come out of it ... it would be pretty 8*** of him, and no he will never leave the heat
June 24, 200422 yr I'm not sure they met but I've heard a lot of speculations that Riley was a consideration for the job and Riley didn't shoot it down right away, but then stated that his only concern is to extend his contract and also Van Gundy's contract with Arison. Plus Riley said he has no desire to coach anymore and he's looking forward to his future as the president of the Heat And it's pretty sure Rudy Tomjanovich (sp?) is replacing Phil Jackson. So don't worry, Pat wasn't even close. The idea probably just intrigued him since he had a nice championship run with them, owns a Malibu home and has strong social ties in the LA area. But pfff, Riley could barely handle the Heat stress, imagine the Lakers mess.
June 24, 200422 yr Author yeah I just didnt think that he would even consider talking to the Lake show ... no big deal
June 24, 200422 yr Author Rashual Butler .... they are using Caron as trade bait to try to get rid of of one of the two big contracts (Grant / EJ )
June 24, 200422 yr Why would Pat leave if he receive a certain % of ownership of team with every year.Arison will continue to give % in his new contract.
June 24, 200422 yr He said he didn't wanna coach anymore or leave the Heat. What a traitor. you have to remember this. riley gained all his glory with teh showtime lakers. he has achived ZERO since. he couldnt do it with the knicks. he couldnt do it with the heat. a coach will always yearn to be a coach. if the lakers offered him a coaching gig....he would take it in a heartbeat and that should be expected, especially if that itch returns....which it often does.
June 24, 200422 yr riley released a statement confirming that he sat down and met with the lakers management for "a few hours". he said that their discussions are over though and he wont be leaving the heat. steve shapiro on channel 7 said he doesnt believe pat's discussions with the lakers are over just yet.
