June 30, 200422 yr You people seriously make me laugh. Willis was brought up last year to pitch in the middle of the season and put up All-Star numbers . This Year he is not finding the plate , but when he does win his pitching is absolutely amazing. This kid is going to be a superstar , he has all the talent in the world , not to mention an electric personallity . He has a really bad month and most of you start talking about putting him in the bullpen or worse trading him . Please dont act like Phillies fan , Marlins are doing a better than last year and most of you guys are complaining about them twice as much . The only thing we need is bullpen help , hitting will come around and the starters will settle in . Come on Marlin Fans stick with our boys Just like they stuck with us . We werent always the best fans were we? PATIENCE

Teams win and lose based on this role. The Yankees went out an signed Tom Gordon, Paul Quantrill and about 2-3 others to fill this role. We let Uggie and Looper go because we couldn't afford them for this role.
June 30, 200422 yr Stag, once I was a big proponement of moving Willis to the pen (and got just as much slack, seems like you can't criticize Willis or Cabrera here), but he's working on his curveball and making some progress. If he ever learns to get fired up to pitch better and still be able to concentrate on the strike zone, like Manzy he'll be fine.

As a matter of fact, his career might benefit by becoming an 8th inning guy where his good short bursts would be more beneficial. We can't keep sending him out there and having him only go 4-6 innings. It's taxing on the pen. If he and Manzy become the 8th inning guys then the whole team benefits. He was stupendous in the world series in this role.
July 2, 200422 yr Author As I have been saying, Willis to the pen if even for just a couple of games. Keep your eye on this. I could see the team returning after the All-Star break with Willis in the pen permanently if he is effective. Benitez - Manzy - Willis - Howard I'll that take from 7th inning on. Let's go add Ron Villone and the keep one long guy (Wayne is my preference).
