June 27, 200422 yr Obtain Greg Zaun and Miguel Batista from the Jays. Starrting Staff: Beckett, Burnett, Pavano, Penny & Batista Bullpen becomes: Benitez Koch Manzy Willis Perisho - ONLY to be used on a lefty bat. Oliver Howard/Wayne/Borland - who do ya want?
June 27, 200422 yr Author Cape, and I want Vernon Wells in our OF Let's first work on a trio of solid setup men. If we are to win this thing our starters go 7 innings most games. Give us Manzy, Koch and Willis as setup guys and we are looking better. When that's in place we can work on the final 2 spots.
June 27, 200422 yr Batista is terribly overrated. His best years have been out the bullpen and he's never had more than 11 wins. He's inconsistent and has been overrated since he won the WS with Arizona.
June 27, 200422 yr Why would the Jays trade Wells who is an up and coming player? I am aware that they have some promising players ready to take the field but I just don't see them trading a stud like Wells.
June 27, 200422 yr Willis in the bullpen, gives us a break. Remind me, who has two out of our three complete games and is our best hitting pitchers by a mile?
June 27, 200422 yr why move Willis out of the rotation? I dont get some of you I agree! By putting Willis in the Pen you are not using his talent to the Fullest.
June 27, 200422 yr Author I was being sarcastic about Wells. I don't get some of you. We sit here and moan and groan about the bullpen each and every day. If the opportunity is there to better the pen on a daily basis, you consider it. Did we just say, no way...Cabrera is a 3B, no move to the OF? If it helps the club you consider all options.

Yes but the only reason we wanted Cabs in the OF was because there was someone better at third. Are you telling me Batista is a better starting pitcher than Willis?
June 27, 200422 yr Author No, what I am saying is that I'd rather have Batista as a # 5 and Willis as a daily setup man with Manzy and Koch than Willis as a # 5 and Borland, Howard, Perisho getting the ball in the 7th inning on too often.
June 27, 200422 yr Starrting Staff: Beckett, Burnett, Pavano, Penny & Batista Bullpen becomes: Benitez Koch Manzy Willis Perisho - ONLY to be used on a lefty bat. Oliver im likeing this set up right here willis needs to go to the bull pen and get grounded, and i think in the bulllpen u throw in borland.
June 27, 200422 yr i like that idea though, Miguel Bautista isnt really a bad pitcher, and we need a good relief pitcher. Dontrelle can do that job but i dont want him to go to the bullpen for some reason.
June 27, 200422 yr people people people.. the answer is in chad fox: he just needs to come off the dl some day, and things should be fine.. just get rid of billy koch and his retarded neck move pitching self!
June 30, 200422 yr Author I will repeat my original proposal. Willis has 17 starts left. Let's assume the team goes 9-8 in those starts. Based on how he has been throwing that is a fair projection in my opinion. What would our record be if another starter took his place? Go out and acquire a legit MLB starter with an ERA between 4.75 and 5.25. With this guy can we go 5-12? Of course we can. Probably even better than that. Probably more like 7-10 or 8-9. Now for the next 85 games we have Dontrelle Willis joining Manzy (and eventually Koch?) as our setup guys. Can many games that our pen has blown so far could Willis have saved for Benitez? When I first proposed this idea I think people felt I was slighting Willis. He has been inconsistent but I see Willis as a great addition to the pen and will be used in big situations. Keep this in mind. As things stand right now, come October when we enter the playoffs Willis is in the pen.
June 30, 200422 yr In half of Willis' starts he has pitched 5 innings or less. He might as well be considered a reliever already if that's all he's contributing. But seriously the kid needs to go see a therapist or something to work himself out.
June 30, 200422 yr why move Willis out of the rotation? I dont get some of you Amen. Why are some of you so obsessed with getting Dontrelle out of the starting rotation? He has been pretty good this year, up and down, but solid. He is young and getting better. Heck, we won 5-4 tonight.
June 30, 200422 yr Willis is good in short doses...look at the world series....I think he could be the 8th inning guy....get Livan and we're still golden in the rotation.
June 30, 200422 yr bullpen is the most overrated aspect of baseball. you dont take a STARTER and make him a RELIEVER and say it will make the team BETTER when he would be pitching less
June 30, 200422 yr and you DONT TYPE like this in HOPES that people WILL GET a better GRASP of what you are trying to SAY. this thread should've been dead!
