Mets...you should be ashamed

Who is this hack you put out on the mound? Are you conceding this game before it starts?

Matt Ginter:

1/3 IP

5 H

6 ER

Nice job. :mad : :thumbdown

Ruben just owned him .

that was the hardest HR i seen this year.

He came from the White Sox. What do you expect.

Cut him some slack.

Wasn't Mets_bs just arguing about how awesome Matt Ginter was in one of the other threads recently? He needs to realize that the Mets have 3 good starters, and 2 lousy ones.

And they aren't getting Garcia either. :afro

ginter has pitched very well in 8 starts for the mets before this one

if we judged everyone by the first time we've seen them...1/2 the league would be in A ball

this thread is uncalled for

the NY Muts have always been an pitaful orgnization...... thats just teh bottom line...... they will always be garbage........ and im not just sayin this cuz im a fish fan im sayin this cuz its the truth..... look how good Floyd was with us he puts on that ugly Orange Blue uni and he's crap..... prob neva eva put the numbers up like he did with us ova there......

ya they have an better ERA but look whose in 1st place and look whose not if Glass Beckett was healthy and Burnett has about 3-4 more starts like he has done the past few games we will have the best ERA again.....

all teh Muts have Glavine and Lieter.......

Look at more than one start before you run your mouth, the guy has been awesome this year. Not a bad trade off for Timo Perez. 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA before his last start, that's really lousy. This thread shows just how much you guys really don't know about baseball.

BTW, thumbs up to the few posters who called these idiots out.

and what you said about Benitez showed how much you don't know about baseball. Matt Ginter has been crap his whole career and he will come back to earth I promise you. This is just the beginning.

Enlighten us Captain Clueless, how many career starts did Ginter have before ths season? It's not very easy to suceed when you're only being used in mop-up situations. You could be the biggest idiot on this board.

Ginter is a shaky, #5 starter at best. Mets are taking a risk with him, partly because they really have no one else. The Yankees start aside, he hasn't been that bad and to tell the truth, has been better than Seo(which isn't saying a whole lot)

You make a good point, Ginter was never able to make it into the White Sox rotation, because we know they've had some great starting rotations the last couple of years.

He pitched a lot in 2001 and 2002 out of the pen, and he just couldn't cut it with them. Matt Ginter is nothing more than a marginal 5th starter.

I'm still waiting for Benitez to give up those bunches of runs you were talking about after his bad outing 2 weeks ago.

Ginter has almost always been a reliever, and in the very few chances he was given to start in the minors he was very good. The problem with him in the Sox org. was that he was never utilized correctly and has shown this year, that given the chance, he can be a reliable pitcher.

I just think you are a homer, and we have plenty of those on this board.

Everybody can be a homer at times, but this issue isn't one of them. You're grilling a guy because of one bad start in an otherwise good season.

when evaluating a guy like this, you have to look at the big picture.

as it stands right now, so far in this entire season he has a 4.53 era in 45 and 2/3 innings pitched in a home pitchers park.

he's got a whip of 1.40 and has allowed a .286 opponents batting average.

oh yeah, he has pitched 45 and 2/3 innings in his 9 starts! thats horrendous.

also, his career numbers are not very good.

his numbers indicate that he has been a below average major league pitcher to date. he might have potential or he might not, but you'd have to be a homer to vacuum off a small sample size of innings in order to find some basis on which to call the guy a success.

if youre going to use calculated ERA as the sole basis for your argument (which makes no sense if youre evaluating a starter), you must take the good with the bad. for a guy purporting to know more about baseball than others on this board, that should be a no-brainer. the vast majority of major league pitchers would have ERAs in the low 3's or high 2's if one could just weed out blowout performances from the calculation.

his prior ERA of 3.38 is a product of looking at a tiny sample size of innings pitched. also, at 5 innings per start, he certainly has not been an "awesome" this season. he's a 4.53 ERA starter who cant go deep. until he proves otherwise, one has no choice but to look at the big picture.

I like how you fail to mention that in 2 of his 9 starts he was forced out early because of rain delays, somthing that was beyond his control. And even if they weren't, as a converted reliever he isn't expected to go deep into games right away. Regardless of that, he went 6 innings at the very least in every other start but the last one. I won't dispute his WHIP and ERA because you can't just throw out a start, but you can't dispute those numbers were significantly lower before his last start. And his career numbers are those of a pitcher who was used mostly in mop-up situations, you can't compare numbers from situations where he has to deal with another pitchers mess. No pither puts up numbers that you would call successfull in situations like that.

not even close.

his starts:

5.0 ip

6.0 ip

3.0 ip

6.0 ip

7.2 ip

5.1 ip

4.0 ip

3.0 ip

that's right, he pitched 6 innings in only 3 of his 9 starts. i'm sorry, but any way you cut it, that's unacceptable for a starter. i didn't know about rain delays apparently shortening 2 outings, but thats a pretty lame excuse for averaging 5 innings per start.

indeed, that's exactly why it is inappropriate to evaluate someone based on a small sample size of innings. anyone can look good if your sample size is small.

alright, now you sound like a homer. youre making excuses for every hole in his game. his numbers have been unimpressive over his entire career, and that's your explanation for it? is it really necessary?

when he has a good season, we can all give him props. but jesus christ, you cant just look at a select tiny sample size of innings pitched prior to his last start--all while ignoring his inability to go deep in games--and conclude the guy is a success. at this point, the numbers don't indicate that at all.

Everybody can be a homer at times, but this issue isn't one of them. You're grilling a guy because of one bad start in an otherwise good season.

I'm not saying this because of this start, I'm saying this because he has never been a good pitcher in the majors. He's having a nice season so far, but he's going to come back to earth and I think this start was the beginning of it. That's all I'm saying.
