Posted July 1, 200420 yr By my count, the last time Pierre or Castillo has attempted to steal a base (meaning, either stolen the base or were caught stealing) was June 17th, two weeks and 12 games ago. there were none attempted against the Rangers, none against Atlanta the first time around, none against Tampa, and none so far against the Braves. i think it's time to turn the guys loose and see if that can get things rolling for us again. yes Pierre has gotten caught a lot this year, but we gotta be willing to live or die by that speed. it's the only advantage we have!
July 1, 200420 yr McKeon's dislike to running compared to Torborg's was obvious last year but this is incredible. It's almost a waste of speed. Remember the days last year when DLee and 432Juan stole 20? I'd be surprised if Luis steals 20 this year lol.
July 1, 200420 yr Pierre has to get on base to have a chance to steal....and that has been more of a rarity lately.

July 1, 200420 yr ya we dont run anymore.   you have to get on......we dont.  luis stopped running sometime last year except occassionally.

July 1, 200420 yr Or the hit and rn? Or tagging up and challenging some arms? It's like watching the Blue Jays.
July 1, 200420 yr I want to see more hit and run type plays especially when luis is up with JP up or vice versa. The stealing thing doesn't bother me too much because last year when the team stole a ton of bases the offense wasn't paticularly good anyways.
July 1, 200420 yr Author in my opinion, i think that this recent slump has caused Jack to see every baserunner as all the more precious...in other words, when guys are getting on base as rarely as we are these days, it's tough to risk them because they could be our only baserunners of the game. but is it any coincidence that our running slump has coincided with our offensive slump? it's a bit of a chicken-and-egg issue, but i do think we need to run to be successful. you can say that it's because Pierre and Castillo aren't getting on base, but Castillo was on 1st with one out in the 1st inning today, and again in the 8th. Pierre was on 1st with one out in the top of the 1st inning yesterday. none of these situations resulted in attempts.
July 1, 200420 yr Yeah I have to agree that JP not hitting as well is resuliting in him running as much. Last year we could count on him to get on atleast 3 or 4 times so if he did get caught once it would be ok. Now if he only gets on 1 or 2 times a game then getting caught that one time can be really hurtful.
