PBMarlin
THE LIST While the cost of dealing for Boston's Nomar Garciaparra might be prohibitive, a number of other offensive options have piqued the Marlins' interest as the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline approaches. Among them are outfielders Frank Catalanotto (Toronto), Danny Bautista (Arizona) and Jeromy Burnitz (Colorado); utility man Rob Mackowiak (Pittsburgh); and catchers Gregg Zaun (Toronto), Brent Mayne (Arizona) and Dan Wilson (Seattle). Catalanotto ($2.3 million this year) and Mayne ($800,000) are on the disabled list with minor injuries, although Mayne will soon start his minor league rehab assignment this week. Wilson ($3.5 million) won't be made available until recently acquired catcher Miguel Olivo (kidney stones) comes off the Mariners' DL. The Marlins have told teams they are not interested in outfielders Randy Winn (Seattle), Preston Wilson (Colorado) and Matt Stairs (Kansas City). Arizona's Finley is another option, but he's making $7 million, can block any trade and is known to favor playing on the West Coast. Montreal outfielder Brad Wilkerson ($375,000) is not available, despite several national reports to the contrary. Nor are the Expos interested in moving reliever Luis Ayala, another Marlin trade target. The longer the Marlins wait before playing their hand, the better their odds of landing affordable help. Just eight teams are clearly in the selling mode, but that number could double by the end of the month. Link to Article Good possiblities on the list. I just hope we can make to the end of the month, and still be in the buying mode.

PBMarlin
i favor bautista the most on that list. 443472 I agree that Bautista is the best of the possibilities at the moment. I prefer Catalanotto, but he has been suffering from a strained groin, and could be a risky pick-up.
Admin
Burnitz won't help the team at all. Don't want him.

Iowa
If we can somehow play every game at Coors, I'll take Burnitz... but other than that... no way Bautista or Catalanatto would be nice

PBMarlin
Bautista: .316 BA .326 vs LHP .312 vs RHP .344 Runners on .324 RISP .394 RISP w/2 outs 443488 Plus he is a #3 hitter...which is exactly what we need. What would it take to get him? He is a FA after the season...so it would only be a rental situation.
Beinfest4Prez
Didn't we trade Bautista because he was mediocre at best?

Admin
Didn't we trade Bautista because he was mediocre at best? 443498 Yeah, we traded him for Andy Fox. How much is he? Making 4 million this season.
Iowa
Players and Managers have said that all Bautista needed was a starting position and playing time to produce. They've said he's always had the talent.
