Why does Jack..

Featured Replies

why does Jack insist upon making defensive changes so early in games?

IIRC in the Phillies game he took out Cabs and Luis in just the 6th inning

tonight he takes out Josh Willingham in just the 5th inning(I think)

I dont get it

Agreed 100%.

Defense. Simple. The guys we trust didnt do it. (Castillo and Treanor).

and it is too bad that Ramp does not understand that Willingham is not a CATCHER and never will be a FT catcher in the ML. He will end up in the American League.

While it's obviously inferior, I'm pretty sure the AL is in the ML too.

because Josh was soooooo awful tonight behind home plate

and answer me this, how many errors did Josh have in AA?

what was his CS%?

you are just basing this crap on one game, maybe you should watch him before you judge him

and since when is Matt Treanor a defensive dynamo?

I would bet that it had nothing to do with today's game, the game the other day or anything else other than he is not a catcher!

Did you see him in the minors play? If not, then you shouldnt comment. The Marlin scouts say he is not ready to be a catcher and prolly never will. He does however provide an additional stick to the lineup and in most cases, I would expect that they are looking for the O from him instead of D. Winning 2-0, get him out and put a more experience catcher in there.

But I forgot that you are the expert on this forum and we dont know anything.

actually yes I have seen him play in the minors, I even have a tape put together of his at bats and him playing all the positions

:thumbup

and!

I have tapes of a lot of players and I can read statistics. Does that mean anything. NO...Why? because I am not there day in and day out and it is not my profession....nor is it yours

the fact of the matter is that you dont start putting in defensive replacements so early in the ball game

Why not? 2-0 game shows you that McKeons confidence to score more runs is not there. Go for Defense. He takes Cabrera out for defense in some games in the 7th/8th inning. Willy had two at bats and did well for those innings but when carrying three below average catchers, go with the best defensive one.

dont get me wrong, i hate losing to but you have to play the game to win and to put who you (Mckeon and staff) thinks is the best option. Willy is not it at the catchers position! Of course, I dont like the other two options either.

When was the last time a catcher performed well defensively after being called up from the minor leagues?

They stand no chance. They aren't familiar with the pitchers. And teams will test young arms.

I dont think it is against Willy at all and it doesnt have anything to do with SB. I would bet it is more pitch calling, location etc rather than anything else.

He is getting an opportunity to catch some and to play OF but at this point in his career, he has no position.

well it probably isnt game calling, scouts say he is very good at it

Ramp,

which scouts have you talked to? Again, we all are pulling for someone like him to step it up but certain situations like today dictate certain moves by coaching staff.
