Carlos Delgado

The fan deserved it. He interfered with the game. I dont have a problem about what he did. But not particapating in God Bless America is a totally different story. At least he could show some respect.

exactly! it's all about respect...he has a right to show his beliefs, but he has to respect others who differ.

If he doesn't want to sing God Bless America, he doesn't have to. I'm not especially fond of the song myself.

As far as the tiff with the fan, big deal. Athletes get pissed too.

regarding to carlos hitting the ball: totally right. the guy interfered. fine? ridiculous

regarding to carlos/GBA: you gotta believe the whole reason he is doing this is because he is angry at the US bc of the US testing in vieques. in any event, he is part of the team, and i think he should stand up with the rest of his team, but he has a choice. thats what america was built on right? or have we lost sight of that?

he has a right to not sing GBA, but to mock it by resisting to show any sign of respect to it? outrageous, if you ask me....

God Bless America isn't a national anthem, it doesn't command respect.

dude, come on! I will only tell you one thing: if an American player in the PR Baseball League were to stay in the dugout for any kind of patriotic moment/anthem/song/presentation (whatever), the media and the public would tear him in pieces and throw him to the lions.

I take being silent for the GBA as protesting against Steinbrenner, who was the one who puffed it up in the 1st place. I don't have a problem with Delgado. What I do have a problem with, is people making him how to be some sort of heroic saint (like the guys at Baseball Primer), and I also have a problem with Das - GBA was started after 9/11. You think Steinbrenner had intimate knowledge of the forthcoming war with Iraq, 18 months down the road? Huh....do ya?

I thought knocking the ball out of the fan's hand was appropriate. He could have easily caught the ball. He was expressing his anger. Moises Alou also expressed anger, though not physically, when a certain fan interfered with one of his catches.

As for God Bless America. I don't stand for it as a fan and I wouldn't stand for it as a player either, because I am an atheist and don't feel the need to honor the song. I pay my respects to the country during the national anthem. You might think Delgado's reason for not standing (the war) is a dumb one, but whatever, it's his right. It's not like he's making a big fuss out of it, either. He simply goes into the dugout or clubhouse. I honestly do not see how this is any sort of problem for anyone.

Saying you have to stand for God Bless America is like saying the fans have to stand while the stadium plays "Enter Sandman". What's the difference between the two songs? Absolutely nothing, they are both songs. I stand during God Bless America, only because it's the 7th inning stretch. I'm Catholic and all, but I just don't care to sing it. I'd rather hear Take Me Out To The Ballgame. You don't have to put your hat over your heart or anything of the sort. It isn't a national anthem, it's just another random song that happens to mention America. That's honestly if someone were to put their hats over their heart and stand for "Cuba Que Lindo Son Tus Paisajes"

Haven't we gone over this before?

If he doesn't wanna stand up to GBA, then oh well...the world will go on. It's not like it's the national anthem, it's a song they have outplayed like crazy. I could understand playing it on the anniversary of Sept. 11th but not every damn game, that's not what baseball is about.

And frankly, FishFanPR if it bothers you that much then write a letter to Carlos Delgado about your complaint because I heard enough.

I refuse to invest my time writing to CArlos Delgado...booing him next time I see him will be enough.

If you refuse to have a reasonable solution to a problem, you have no right to complain and bring forth that problem. Doesn't matter who you are.

FishFan ... JUST FREAKING DROP IT ALREADY

gosh ...from now on everytime i go to a game im not gonna stand up for the darn song because of you

haha
