July 29, 200422 yr Watch the Speech Here: http://www.c-span.org/2004vote/convention....Rot_Cat_CD=DEMS
July 29, 200422 yr One quibble: "Yet even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters and negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes. Well, I say to them tonight, there?s not a liberal America and a conservative America?there?s the United States of America. There?s not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there?s the United States of America. The pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats" I thought there were Two Americas!

July 29, 200422 yr Don't confuse the man with party dogma - he's on a roll. You gotta go with it. 480573 The speech was written by a Kerry campaign writer. Obama was just the mouthpiece.

Obama was just the mouthpiece. 480577 Its known as "Plausable deniability" :shifty 480588 This entire convention, as with all political conventions, is carefully put together by the dominant campaign. Kerry's campaign has gone so overboard, they have banned Bush Bashing and put the lyrics of the music up that singers will be performing on the speech screens so no "mishaps" happen.
July 29, 200422 yr It was a great speech, but too perfect to grab my attention. He was so hyped by the media that when I finally got to see the speech....I yawned. 480136 :lol At least be fair. It was a good speech. I mean could you show that your a Republican anymore with those comments. I finally listened to it and it was a good speech remind me a bit of MLK. I'd love to see him get a chance one day to make a run at the Presidency.

July 29, 200422 yr His speech was so perfect, it was boring. 479909 Cape, if you have nothing positive to say about Barack than don't say it. You would've been all over it if it had been someone like a Rush Limbaugh saying it. Please. Even Tonyi agrees the speech was good. 479938 don't waste your time.... objectivity anyone? :thumbdown 480145 I have more objectivity than most on this board. Don't give me that crap. It was a good speech, but it was delivered robotically. Sounded like something you would here on Turnpike Information Radio. 480147 Cape, I know you support President Bush, but to say this man's speech was robotic has to be the greatest lie I have ever heard anyone saying. Most of the media gurus, including extreme right-wing men like Buchanan and Scarborough were very impressed. People were crying during his speech, it moved them to their feet. I didn't know who Obama was until his address. I was not only moved and pumped, but I felt that even if President Bush wins, the Democrats still have hope for the future. I dare to say he did the impossible and even overshadowed Clinton. That is how powerful his speech was.
July 29, 200422 yr I think Obama was a bit idealistic but I like his energy and enthusiasm. I fear its only a matter of time before he realizes the frustrations that is special interest politics. The division between the red states and the blue states is a lot larger than some will realize. There are major differences in values that lead to different Americas. Deny it all you want as political rhetoric. And cape, you have as much objectivity as Bin Laden arguing about the US.

Why b/c hes the prodigy that can make a future run, clinton is done wiht his presidency. He's a good speaker, but the speech writers did a good job to rile up the dems

He was one of the few speakers who was allowed to keep his speech almost intact.

But the DP and kerry campaign must have reviewed iut to make sure it was kosher, correct?

Clinton and Obama were part of that 2%. The speakers were asked to send a draft of their speeches far in advance for the campaign speech writers to review and ensure there was no blatant Bush bashing. They were given clear instructions that they could write whatever they wanted as long as they kept it positive.
July 29, 200422 yr Cape and Repubs..... All the same crap you are accusing the Democrats of..... The RNC will be the exact same way. Obama gave a great speech...a speech you woudl expect from a younger member of the party...it was full of idealism...but thats something you often find in the younger generation. As long as Obama can stay true to his vision and his values....he WILL accomplish great things in this nation. Now if only Texas can get their act together on the Democratic side...I'm tired of all this conservative right wing crap in my home.
July 29, 200422 yr Now if only Texas can get their act together on the Democratic side...I'm tired of all this conservative right wing crap in my home. 481223 It all starts with people like you Das. You have to stand up, talk your opinions and not be afraid of speaking honestly. I could bet that there are many regular people in Texas who are just not that much involved in politics because they just want to live and let live, but who hold dear their civil liberties, their jobs, their environment and that if they got involved, Texas would be Democratic. Find them! :thumbup
July 29, 200422 yr We were very Democratic up until the mid 80s - early 90s. but in time Texas Democrats will rise up again...even though i'm not officially a Democrat.

July 29, 200422 yr if i had to pick a party i pick the Democrats. I sure as hell dont like 70% of the Republican agenda..... but i dont want to classify myself neither..... something about commitement.
July 29, 200422 yr You can do it, Das!!! Just believe in yourself and you can fly!!!! Oh wait, what was the topic again. Mmm, ok.... oh yeah, just believe in yourself, and you can make Texas democratic again. You could be like Johnny Appleseed, except we would call you Dassy Liberalseed, walking all around Texas spreading the gospel of John Kerry to all the good little boys and girls.

I sure as hell dont like 70% of the Republican agenda..... but i dont want to classify myself neither..... something about commitement. 481698 :mischief But I thought you were already a committed man... Last I heard the ring was on someone's finger???? :mischief
July 29, 200422 yr ya there's probably a lot of things you are not fully aware of anyway...i digress. i prefer to remain an 'independent' until the time comes when picking a party formally would be of some use to me.

July 29, 200422 yr The main reason Obama's speech was so well-received is because he focused on topics that everyone can agree on - Jobs are GOOD. Equality is GOOD. Inclusion is GOOD. I'm not seeing a whole lot of specifics on how the Kerry can make a better America without a whole of platitudes leaving viewers to fill in the "blanks" that Bush is against all these things. I guess that makes me a right-winger. Oh, the hell of a critical mind.

I didn't know. Cool. I love Dean, but Bush would have squashed him. Kerry was the only one with the resume and experience to beat Bush. However, I don't think Dean is done, I think he is going to keep pressing from inside to bring some real change inside the Democratic Party.
