June 20, 200323 yr That's him. Berardino said they brought up Willis instead of Bump to save money, what a jerk! Willis was ready, as we have seen. I would like to see Bump come up, but right now it isn't going to happen.
June 20, 200323 yr The Southern League has tougher competition than the Pacific Coast League. When did that occur? I could understand the Marlins have better talent in the Southern League...but for the entire Southern League to be better than the entire Pacific Coast League...highly unlikely. Why do I send Cabrera to triple A.....pitchers are better in triple A.
June 20, 200323 yr Darn, I can't find it. The article read that since the AAA clubs were depleted by call ups due to pitching injuries that the PCL had less challenging pitching than the AA Southern League. Almost every AAA PCL team has lost pitchers to call ups due to injuries.
June 20, 200323 yr The difference between AA and AAA is very minimal. It really is not necessary to play at both to see if you can make it to the majors. A lot of times teams will actually keep their better prospects at AA and their more veteran, but not necessarily better, minor leaguers at AAA.
June 20, 200323 yr Listening to Mike Berardino's one-hour show with Hank on WQAM, he seems to think that the Marlins could call him up literally as soon as he gets comfortable out in left field. He played his 2nd game in the OF and supposedly made a leaping catch out there, while continuing to pound AA pitching. He said he wouldn't be surprised to even see him up by the All-Star break. Perhaps they'll make a deal and bring up Cabrera right around the same time. quicker than we all thought
