August 15, 200422 yr That was awesome, when Lowell got the walk I was just smiling knowing that Niner was up next . When the bases are loaded, Conine is like Babe Ruth... I just wish he did it against the Phillies :lol . I think he'll break the Marlins single season record for most grand salami's.

August 15, 200422 yr What's the MLB record for Grand Slams in a season? 512317 Don Mattingly and Dale Long with 8 Grand Slams in a season each 512329 No, that'd be consecutive games with a HR. I looked this up cause 8 sounded like a bit much. Mattingly does hold the record but with 6. Ernie Banks and Jim Gentile--whoever that is--each hit 5. Buncha guys hit 4. And with his 3rd Conine has tied dozens and dozens of people for 21st all time in the single-season Grand Slam record book.
August 15, 200422 yr Don Mattingly holds the all time major league (and AL) record with 6, however Ernie Banks holds the NL record with 5 and he is the only player in the history of the NL to hit 5 in a season. The most only players in recent history to even come close to touching any of the grand slam related records were Giambi, Phil Nevin, Edgar Martinez, and Piazza with 4 a piece and then a ton of other recent players who have hit 3. Check out this page for the top 100 of all time, the players highlighted in bold font are recent/active players. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/hitting/higs2.shtml
