August 29, 200422 yr Are stadiums allowed to show replays of close calls (such as the Enc play, the Juanpy steal attempt on Friday, or say a borderline pitch) on the titatrons? I know I've seen controversial calls shown on the tron at football games, plus you can hear crowd reaction on tv from seeing a replay of a call that should have gone the other way. Why aren't these replays played for the crowd? We have no way of knowing whether or not the umpire got the call right or not, and if he didn't we have every right to get on his case for it. But there's no sense getting on his case if it was a close call but he was right and we thought he was wrong.

August 29, 200422 yr Well that's a bunch of garbage. We should be allowed to see replays of controversial calls, and the AV guys should have the sacks to show them.
August 29, 200422 yr Yea they show replays on the most useless plays. Like yesterday they showd conines hit for no apparent reason. The plays that you actually want to see the replay for they wont show it. its soo stupid
August 29, 200422 yr I have no idea about anything in football, but I assume this is because the ump's call sticks anyways. If they aired the replay solely for the case of booing the umps.. I don't think MLB would like that very much.
August 29, 200422 yr The Astros were fined and Giles suspended for doing it once at the AstroDome. Now Giles is in the Phillies front office and President of the National League.
August 29, 200422 yr Well in football, plays can be reviewed, which is not the case in baseball, thankfully.
August 29, 200422 yr It's for the best because you can go inside and see the TV broadcast and not have the possibility of fans getting mad. Some fan bases *coughphilliesredsoxwhitesoxmetscough* are pretty bad when they get mad.
August 29, 200422 yr All NBA teams (well at least the Heat) show controversial replays, infact they show replays after every single point scored by the Heat regardless of it's significance.
August 29, 200422 yr That always annoys me too. Baltimore sometimes shows a big play, but usually not that often. I don't see why they can't show it. It would make being at the stadium all the better
August 29, 200422 yr Seriously, it gets annoying having to call someone to find out if the runner was safe or out. Just show the damn replay!
August 30, 200422 yr Someone once told me that it was in the umpires' union contract that parks couldnt show replays of close plays. That makes some sense, especially given the times a couple of years back where fans were into throwing stuff on the field. You guys remember the magnet throwing at PPS and the beer bottle throwing at other parks....that is why they have the plastic bottles at PPS and why the guys pour the beer for you....and I think that is also why they don't show replays of close plays.
