Posted September 19, 200420 yr Soriano out for rest of the year By T.R. Sullivan Star-Telegram Staff Writer ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Rangers are expecting to be without All-Star second baseman Alfonso Soriano for the remainder of the season with an injured left hamstring muscle. The injury is similar to tendon/hamstring problems former Rangers outfielder Doug Glanville had last season and Ricky Ledee had in 2001. Both required surgery and missed significant amounts of playing time. Soriano, who might need surgery, underwent an MRI exam Friday, and Angels physician Lewis Yocum isn't going to read the results until Sunday. But it's clear there's no rush. "It's not real definitive yet, but it's definitely not a one- or two-day thing," Rangers manager Buck Showalter said. Said Soriano: "It's not good. It's a bad hammie." Soriano injured the leg while stealing third base in the eighth inning of Thursday's game in Oakland. Eric Young, a former All-Star second baseman, started there Friday night, his 1,267th game at the position. Andy Fox and Manny Alexander can also play there. "Nobody on the field has played more games in the infield than Eric Young," Showalter said. "We're lucky to have him. He'll play second base tonight, and we'll see where it takes us." Soriano had played all but one of the Rangers' games, and is hitting .280 with 28 home runs and 91 RBI. "This makes me mad, because I like to play every day and this is the end of the season," Soriano said. "We're fighting for the playoffs, and it's not good." That always sucks.
September 19, 200420 yr I saw the replay on ESPN of him doing that and it looked very awkward... like one leg just locked on him and then he tripped over it as he slid head first.
September 19, 200420 yr Injuries suck. Mostly when one of your best players is out knowing that your team is a playoff competitor.
September 19, 200420 yr I feel bad for the Rangers...Soriano is a big part of their team. If he is out for a long time than the Rangers will be HORRIBLE.
September 19, 200420 yr Author Well, the Rangers aren't going to the playoffs this year, but they have improved hugley since the A-Rod trade and should be better next year.
