Wow, in the whole, entire, storied history of the Fish? Whew!

 

I guess the devil you know is better than the one you don't in this case, but I would of liked to see the franchise keep their options open should someone big become available over the winter.

 

McKeon was great, but he showed both the very best and the very worst that can happen when a manager overmanages and plays a gut feeling too much.

I'm going to have to say Jack is better than Leyland simply due to the fact that the 1997 squad was basically an allstar team made up of countless future hall of famers. The 1997 team most likely would have won the World Series with or without Leyland, while on the other hand the 2003 squad had absolutely no chance without Jack.

An arguement can be made that the 97 team won despite of Leyland. After all, this was a team of all-stars, and they loitered around for the first 2/3rds of the year and ended up a wildcard team before actually paying attention and winning it all.
