Nebraska loses 70-10

Featured Replies

Nebraska lost 70-10 today to Texas Tech. I take joy in this because the "U", the University of Miami killed their program. Ever since that 2002 Championship game Nebraska has stunk. Neither Oklahoma nor OSU, no matter how dominate they have been as of late, can they say they have KILLED an entire program like Miami has. And that makes me happy!

Ever since that game they have stunk. They were embarressed for the entire nation to see. Nebraska was a power up until then, ever since they struggle to have a winning year. They got Hurrican-pwned.

Well, Miami had nothing to do with it.

But when I saw that score, it made my day. I love it.

before losing the rose bowl to miami, nebraska got killed by Colorado and couldnt even make it to the big 12 title game. nebraska didnt have any buisness playing in the Rose bowl so there's no way i would say we destroyed there program. they've been on a downward spiral ever since Osbourne left.

UF got destroyed in the national championship in 1995 against Nebraska and they recovered. UM certainly didn't lead to their demise. It has a lot to do with Frank Solich's bad recruiting and Bill Callahan's crappy play-calling.

Its not easy to go from the Option to the Spread. The Callahan hire seemed pretty dumb to me but if Husker fans are calling for his head they are dumb. That would just set the program back another year. You have to give coaches 3 years IMO.

Bingo.

You have to give them time to get players that fit the new system.

Nebraska's offense will be fine once Callahan gets them a quarterback and some wide receivers to adjust to the system.

However, giving up 70 POINTS is just awful, and obviously HAS to be addressed, the biggest problem with this result is the defense, not the offense.

Well, the offense did turn it over 7 times in short field.

Nebraska's #2 QB went 1-8 for 13 yards and 4 INT.

That my be the most awesome QB line ever.

Well I wasn't aware of that, but still, 70 POINTS?!?!?!?

Implementing the spread offense in Nebraska is flat out dumb, and will never work, regardless how how much time you give the players to adapt.

Nebraska used the option and run oriented offenses because they are most successful recruiting in the rural midwest and plains states, where importance is placed on power, not speed.

Last time I checked fast, skilled position prospects from the inner cities and suburbs were not falling over each other to live the life in Nebraska. Plus, if you're a HS skill position kid and dream of the NFL, you aren't going to Nebraska. Now, if you're a 6'9, 310lb OL, Nebraska is (or at least was) the place to be.

Bingo......

Northern Illinois (which, like Nebraska, is a rural midwest school) built it's program on 2 simple principles, run the ball and stop the run.

Now I know this comparison isn't exact science, seeing as NIU is a "mid major" and is only about an hour and a half drive from Chicago, the 3rd largest market in America, but in general, to build a powerhouse midwest program, you have to build on defense and running the ball, and eventually, you can start getting the best athletes to come to your school.

NIU has been a running/defense school for a decade, and even now, when we have great wide receivers with incredible speed, the basic principles of old school football remain in place.
