Shaquille O'Neal didn't practice Thursday because of a hamstring injury and is a game-time decision for tonight's preseason game.

The Heat might learn tonight how its offense will function without center Shaquille O'Neal.

O'Neal did not practice Thursday due to a tender left hamstring and is a game-time decision for tonight's preseason game against the Orlando Magic in Tampa.

''I'm not sure yet,'' said O'Neal, who did some conditioning work Thursday. ``It's still a little tender. I don't want to do something serious to it. I don't know.''

What Miami and coach Stan Van Gundy do know is it will not stray from its offense even if O'Neal is not in the game.

O'Neal missed 15 games each of the past three seasons and has had a history of nagging injuries --so the Heat might at some point have to work its offense without the 7-1 center.

''Normally, we would become a much more perimeter team both catch-and-shoots and pick-and-rolls,'' Van Gundy said. ``But again, this is not the time for that. The time now is to really be learning our offense so we will still run some of the stuff that we would run with Shaquille I don't know if we'll run straight post-ups for our guys, but our basic offense in transition . . . We will still run because we've got to learn it and learn how to run it.''

Yep, I agree. No need to rush anything.

Yea let him get his stamina back so Eddy Curry can dominate him at full strength (yet again)
