October 22, 200421 yr As you all know, I don't like WQAM or Beasley Broadcasting. In past years there were only 2 choices for the Marlins....610 WIOD and 560 WQAM. The Marlins always went with WQAM simply because they couldn't get a better deal elsewhere. Right now the value of the Marlins contract signed with WQAM is around $1.5 million a year. This contract was signed at the end of 2002 and is really undervalued. This new contract, if done right, could catch as much as $5 million a year! Now enter 790. 790 is the new kid on the block, likely looking to spend money to get the Marlins and/or Panthers and will need some results to do this. Well the first ratings are out and here they are.... WAXY-AM 790: Summer 2004 0.3 (Station flipped to sports in September) WQAM-AM 560: Summer 2004 2.0 (fell from 2.7 in the Spring of 2004 book) There will be 2 winners in this contest...the Marlins and the fans....we shall soon see who hath indeed won this.
October 22, 200421 yr Author I find the drop in WQAM amazing.... .7 in 3 months! WAXY has an incomplete book, so we won't get a real complete picture until next month at the earliest to see the trend continue.
October 23, 200421 yr I personally have not tuned to QAM since the last radio-only game. Goldberg, Stern, Neil - give me a break. I will miss Eddie K, but se la vie. It worries me that QAM has right-of-first-refusal / ability to match $$$ for Marlins broadcasts. Go WAXY!!

I believe they are already in negotiations so WQAM is already starting to wear kind of thin because Stern is costing alot of $$$$ and WQAM is losing the cash cow that is sportsradio billing.

I now listen to 760 ESPN radio in the Palm Beaches.
October 23, 200421 yr Author 760 and 790 are trying to get rights to the Marlins and Panthers jointly it seems to split the costs. 760 is also upgrading their signal big time.
