November 2, 200422 yr Anyone else who's been volunteering for any campaign today, share your stories. I've been going door to door, busy street to street and 4 times almost hit by a crowd just so I could get all The Kerry Supporters out to the polls and made sure they did. Of all the people we identified as Kerry supporters only two happened to be duds getting the "We don't vote for A Baby Killer". However got a lot of great response which was a suprise seeing that we've been blasting these people over the past two weeks. They still were enthusiastic. Got back to headquarters exhausted and learned of the huge record turnout popping up all over the county and finished the day off with Arby's 5 for 5 special. Democracy and Affordable Beef Sandwiches beat any day handsdown. Rest time. :thumbup
November 2, 200422 yr :arms :arms :arms Great job Rune. I wish I could be out there too with you guys. Stupid class. Plus Louisianna isnt Pennsylvania. But I have IMed friends back in Florida demanding they get off their ass and vote.
November 2, 200422 yr My parents have been at our precint most of the day, volunteering for the Kerry campaign with a couple of other local attorneys to "oversee" that everything is going OK. I'll be heading over to a precinct at a local library near me a little later (heavily democratic) to hand out bottled water and snacks to people in line, with the hope of keeping them there until they've voted.

November 2, 200422 yr I woke up at 430 AM to make it to my assigned precinct by 545 AM. When I got there, the Democrats had already put out a plethera of signs, and I don't like to block signs or anything like that, so it was hard for me to work with. But anyway, I gave out stickers and literature to voters that wanted it. If they declined, I simply thanked them for coming out to vote. I also chatted with the Democratic volunteers at my precinct. At 9AM, it was time for me to hand the reigns over and go to class.
November 2, 200422 yr Thanks Shamrock. Like the Dems said, "a young person getting involved in the process is what it's all about. In this country, we can discuss our differences, in some other countries, they just kill eachother!" I think a lot of folks were surprised to see me representing President Bush. I like it. :thumbup
November 3, 200422 yr I volunteered with College Republicans today at my old school, Belen, which conveniently enough is a voting precinct. I went to FIU to get my free College Republican TShirts (sweet) and picked up signs for Illy and Gabriel Martin, for public defender (I never understood why the prosecutor's political affiliation mattered, but alas what do I know right). I was at Belen for about three hours, chatted with some teachers I left behind and such, and got to see alot of familiar faces hitting the polls. Nothing strenous, there isn't much doubt who Little Havana is going to vote for, but still fun. Everyone was civil and I think I picked up a few votes for Martin. A minor note. Not to be racist or anything, but why do politicians seem to not check precinct populations? Does Kerry or Brummer (Martin's opponent) think that Cubans are going to be willing to switch their vote because an American (Kerry) or a black person (Brummer, let's face it hispanics are for the most part racist) told them too? Am I the only one that thinks about these things?

November 3, 200422 yr Yeah, it was fun. Brummer seemed to have kept his office (though Belen's precinct sided with Martin ), but it was still a trip.
