Marlins Wish List

Featured Replies

1- Carl Pavano (SP)

Looks to be out of our price range.

2- Jon Lieber (SP)

Would fill in for Pavs

3- Carlos Delgado (1B)

Long shot to say the least but so was Pudge.

4- Glendon Rusch (SP)

Very affordable but terribly inconsistant throughout his career.

5- Jose Guillen (OF)

Not a FA, but he is cheap for his production.

6- Jose Lima (SP) and Orlando Hernandez (SP)

Marlins have not showed interest in these two but they had great years in 2004.

7-Rudy Seanez (RP)

Gets the job done.

8- Antonio Alfonseca (RP)

I'll give you 6 reasons why we should sign him.

9- BULLPEN HELP!!!! (RP)

(M.Mantei, B.Wickman, J.Powell, C.Hammond, D.Burba,R.Cormier, G.White)

Let's get a couple of these guys!

10- Paul LoDuca ©

Not a FA, but a good leader and plays as hard as anybody.

These are not in order of importance but they are all guys the Marlins should look at. Any suggestions?

Antonio Alfonseca no thanks

Maybe not, but he is better than our pen last year (Small, Bump, Manzy). All of that trash.

617013

i agree..if we see manzy or small down in our pen this year were in trouble...

Alfonseca spit sunflower seeds at me when I sat at the seats near the bullpen (when they had no picnic area). That's my #1 Alfonseca memory, doesn't say much for his production on the field with the fish... all I remember is he never made it easy. Nice guy though so I wouldn't be too upset if we signed him -- just doubt he'll help much.

Not

Good choice.

3- Carlos Delgado (1B)

Long shot to say the least but so was Pudge.

I think the Marlins should take a shot at him.

4- Glendon Rusch (SP)

Very affordable but terribly inconsistant throughout his career.

Good choice for a cheap #4/#5 starter.

5- Jose Guillen (OF)

Not a FA, but he is cheap for his production.

Avoid with extreme prejudice.

6- Jose Lima (SP) and Orlando Hernandez (SP)

Not.

7-Rudy Seanez (RP)

Gets the job done.

Sure, if he doesn't cost anything.

8- Antonio Alfonseca (RP)

I'll give you 6 reasons why we should sign him.

I'll give you 6 reasons why not - Rheal Cormier, Jim Mecir, Steve Kline, Cal Eldred, Chris Hammond, Paul Shuey. Better options are available.

Antonio might not be that great, but he is much better in my opinion than some of the gentlemen mentioned earlier, such as Small. As long as they don't overpay him I don't see why not. They should bring back Seanez if they can, as long as he's not the 8th inning setup type of guy.

When has Alfonseca had a non-Mazzone aided good year?

6- Jose Lima (SP) and Orlando Hernandez (SP)

I personally would not mind seeing El Duque in teal :mischief2

How can any marlins fan after seeing the puke we had in our bullpen last season actually say they dont want alfonseca. If we get him at a good deal ,we should beg him to come here and set up for mota

I'd love to him, if we can't get anyone else. There are better options out there.

anybody but the scrubs we had last year(manzi,small)....

Why does everyone bash Small. He wasnt bad at all, hes a good pitcher to have around for spot starts or to have in AAA just in case a long reliever goes down or what not. You want to talk about scrubs in the pen last year lets talk about manzy and bump

The only thing i liked about Nate Bump was his last name. That bullpen was disgusting and ran like a three legged horse. It was a perfect bullpen for teams that had pitchers that could go eight innings. I mean half those guys are journeymen that have worn out their welcome somewhere else. Alfonseca is an upgrade, not a savior but an upgrade, but i would also love to see this team go better bullpen help and a couple of starters cheap. Rusch and Lima would be great here i think.

I realize I'm in the minority here on El Duque but for myself he's about the last guy (of the quality options available to the Marlins for 2005) that I think ought to be seriously considered.

This is a team that will never (well until we have a stadium) be "deep" with talent, our team needs to get alot of productivity from its starters and a guy like Hernandez is, again for me, too injury-prone.

I kinda agree with you about that but also i don't like Hernandez because if you look at his stats when he didn't play with the yanks they are horrible, some guys just play better with certain teams i guess so i really don't trust him there.

I agree 100% on your comment about El Duque. Despite how good he is, his injuries are a huge worry, particularly on the Marls who have injury-prone guys like Beckett.

No bullpen, whether it consists of six Benitezs or six first-half Bumps, can succeed in securing 1-run leads and salvaging dozens of short outings from Beckett, Burnett, Willis, Penny, Oliver, Valdez and Tejera.

When has Alfonseca had a non-Mazzone aided good year?

617143

in 1999 and 2001

617213

4 and 6 blown saves, respectively. And an ERA in the 3's for a closer is not good, it's decent.

I was hoping for Jose Lima. He was Awome in 04. If we dont aquire a great pitcher, were going downhill.

618349

Lima isnt a great pitcher
