July 9, 200322 yr http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-re...y/s_143069.html Good read, good to see a florida school quick o the move. also not mentioned, a 108 sq. foot atheltic facility is bieng built, a brand new rennovated marshall center, new, state of the art greek housing, and a huge barnes&noble contract. i think all they need is a 40k stadium. to become an Elite school. they face UF in 2007, a time when they are projected national title contenders. incredible the growth in 7 years. they can be a big help for the BE, they can become the powerhouse UM was in maybe 10 years. if FIU is smart, they have to follow the bulls paths. FIU definetly has the potential to be big time. or they could bomb like ucf and be nowhere in 25 years.
July 9, 200322 yr you got to be kidding me. powerhouse like UM in football? that would take a lot longer if it ever did happen. FIU has a nice sports program with some nice facilities
July 9, 200322 yr Author of course, they cant be like UM in 10 years, but they can be great. they can be the frontline powerhouse of the conference, 9-2 last year. 4-0 in CUSA i smell a good year for the bulls
July 9, 200322 yr also not mentioned, a 108 sq. foot atheltic facility is bieng built a 108 sq. foot facility? wow, what is it, like a 11x10 foot room? sorry, i couldnt resist.
July 9, 200322 yr i saw usf play a game last year. i forget whom they played, but they looked good. I hope they all stay in Conference USA. I would like to see that conference really rise and improve themselves. Louisville and Southern Miss are quality football programs. The big conferences are all leeches. ACC, Big Ten, Big East, SEC, Big XII and the Pac 10.
July 9, 200322 yr FAU did make the ncaa's a couple of seasons ago in mens bball. they're baseball program made some strides this season. they're football program took some backward steps record wise this year. Daunte Culpepper played at UCF
July 9, 200322 yr FIU has an interesting situation and could be the next Florida school to make it to I-A. Although FAU had good progress, their new President doesn't seem too excited about Football and they have had a lot of budget cuts in athletics. Not to mention the tons of money they paid to use Pro Player as their home stadium. FIU on the other hand has a stadium already built on campus and has a President, Athletic Director and Coach who are dedicated to getting the team to I-A. Don Strock alone makes the program really worth keeping an eye on.
July 9, 200322 yr Author josh UCF is garbage, well, maybe not that bad(sorry its natural im a bull fan) but its been 25 years and we already have more tv appearances and bcs team victories than them! compare our 7 year track records, we blow them away, big time. we already have contracts with UF and UM. also, i dont see much in FAU. they playin an empty stadium 4 x the size it should be for them. personally, i hate trhe cage(fius stadium) they need to build a real [park, not a high school stadium. they invested alot of money in foottball, but thier marketing is subpar and there isint alot of noise for panther football. again, i stress to fiu to look at usf. but i dont think fiu is going 1-A for a while. the next school iin florida might be bethune cookman.
July 9, 200322 yr FAU has an amazing Baseball program, and a pretty damn good basketball program, also. Their softball is also very VERY good, but Football is really horrible.
July 9, 200322 yr Author I agree with the baseball/softball points josh, but thief bball is average. not bads, but not mind blowing. the bulls are a solid/good team, with a nice arena(sun dome), but with some avid fans: the greenbergopolis., a virtual city of tents with fans tailgating at night
July 10, 200322 yr josh UCF is garbage, well, maybe not that bad(sorry its natural im a bull fan) but its been 25 years and we already have more tv appearances and bcs team victories than them! compare our 7 year track records, we blow them away, big time. we already have contracts with UF and UM. also, i dont see much in FAU. they playin an empty stadium 4 x the size it should be for them. personally, i hate trhe cage(fius stadium) they need to build a real [park, not a high school stadium. they invested alot of money in foottball, but thier marketing is subpar and there isint alot of noise for panther football. again, i stress to fiu to look at usf. but i dont think fiu is going 1-A for a while. the next school iin florida might be bethune cookman. The Cage isn't the most beautiful thing in the world but it does it's job and saves the program tons of money. The plan is to build a new stadium on campus to facilitate the move to I-A, we are already in the Sun Belt conference which is beneficial for scheduling reasons, FAU doesn't have this benefit either. FIU is already in that process by scheduling two I-A teams this season, Troy State and Louisiana-Lafayette, Lafayette is a Sun Belt member and Troy State was already accepted into the Sun Belt and will officially join the conference in 2004 (I think). BTW, Bethune-Cookman will not move up to I-A, they are very successful where they are and have a strong tradition in I-AA football. Actually I had forgotten this but Florida A&M applied for I-A membership so they will probably be the next Florida school in I-A football.
July 10, 200322 yr Author yeah the rattlers are making a strong push but its hard for an all black school. i see your point on the cage, better situation than FAU, but usf, averaging 27,000 strong, needs their own major field.
