Chip Ambres signs with Red Sox

Featured Replies

Red Sox signed outfielder Chip Ambres to a minor league contract.

Ambres, a 1998 first-round pick, hit .241/.352/.449 and stole 26 bases in 35 attempts for Double-A Carolina last season. He's never going to fulfill former expectations, but he still might end up as a useful reserve at some point. He just turned 25 this month.

What a waste he was.

Kind of like all our #1 picks except Beckett and CJ.

And Kotsay, of course.

Why is Boston the dumping grounds for the Marlins failed prospects? They've run Jeff Bailey, Jesus Medrano, I even think Brett Roneberg went through there too.

john henry is scouting for them

So much wasted potential. I was sure that he would have made it to the majors by now. He is destined to be a career minor leaguer

Because they have one of the worst farm systems in baseball.

That's one reason, for example, they are willing to eat most of Kim's contract in exchange for the chance to acquire a couple of prospects. Theo is trying to repopulate their farm system with some players who at least have a chance to make the bigs.

Because they want to be us. We win in '03, they win in '04.

Actually, it may have something to do with Oh Henry.
