January 7, 200521 yr I was just reading an article on ESPN.COM and saw the following: Cleveland also has had preliminary talks with outfielder Juan Gonzalez on a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Gonzalez, who had one of the best seasons of his career for the Indians in 2000, was limited to just 33 games last season with the Kansas City Royals because of lower back problems. Gonzalez made $4.5 million in 2004, but would have to settle for an incentive-based contract with the Indians if he makes their roster. In his only season with Cleveland, Gonzalez batted .325 with 35 homers and 140 RBI. My question is this, why don't he Marlins make a run at Gonzalez, sure he's been inconsistent with his health, but a one year incentive loaded contract is virtually a win win situation for the fish. He's got a cannon and the potential for a really big bat to take some time from 432-Juan. Just curious what you guys think.

January 7, 200521 yr Juan has a history of one injury after another. He's also not a gamer. He has a pretty sour rep in MLB. He's almost exactly the last guy you want on your team. At this point in his career he's best in the AL where he can DH. I can't imagine any scenario inwhich the Marlins would be interested in him.

I know he has alot of problems with injuries, but anyway I say we go for him. Just for a one year deal and see how it goes from there. Plus, now they should have the money to pay him with Pavano and Benitez gone. Does anybody know what there going to do with Juan Encar? I hope they get rid of him.

The guy is a freaking lazy cancer who only thinks about getting paid while spending most of his time in the DL for a lower back pain that does not preclude him from playing golf every weekend. It really was shame to watch him fetter away what could have been an extraordinary career with his laziness and chronic"injuries".
January 7, 200521 yr I agree that he's questionable, but he is greedy. If we guarantee him $750,000 plus incentives for plate appearances, etc... don't you think he'd step up to get the money?
January 8, 200521 yr Gonzalez has a history of playing big for a contract. Case in point his season with Cle led to his signing big contract with Texas. He sucked for a few years until his contract was up and then played big again to get money from KC. If he's tempted to play for the BIG contract and can be signed for peanuts, why not?
