July 12, 200322 yr :whistle As I sit here at 3:00 am I think to myself the last time I felt so good about this team going into the all-star break. And it hits me 97' :w00t yes winning the world series is a long shot but not impossible. When you think of the possibilty of acquiring a Jeff Conine an experienced veteran who can bring in leadership then why not go out and get him ?! It will remind me of when we brought in Darren Dutch Daulten. And you want to talk about bringing fans back lol Conine will bring fans maybe not as much as Willis but puit them together and lets double that. I hear ya'll talking about possibly getting some more bullpen help and that's a great idea but some of you want a big bat I'm not saying we don't need a big bat but you know what this team is playing great in the clutch lets leave a guy like Todd on the bench and have him come in and tie a game with a big HR. All I am saying is that we need a veteran, a leader. And the answer is Jeff Conine and I think the ownership knows that and why not bring in Mr. Marlin we all love D lee but it's a business and we want to win, correct?Well let's take a chance and go after it! Heck lets bring in Juan Gone, conine and whoever else we may not get another chance for a while to be competitive.Marlins are playing great baseball lets hope for a sweep ! And lets hope ESPN does a big thing on the D-train for the all star game and lets hope dusty Baker actually watched the game when Willis pitched so he knows who he is and puts him in the all-star game. :thumbup
July 12, 200322 yr or maybe they don't even need the veteran leader... It's not like this team's full of kids. Pudge is a veteran, Lowell and Lee and Castillo, none of these guys are kids anymore. Plus Derek Lee's been coming on lately, and I'd hate to break up a hot team.
July 12, 200322 yr At first I was so gung ho about the Lee for Conine deal, but the fact of the matter is, DLee is MUCH better defensively and younger...we don't really need that leadership...and the team is performing so well right now, why screw with the chemistry?

Financially trading for Conine would be better, but you're right... Why screw with a bad thing? Besides, D-Lee is heating up... :w00t
July 12, 200322 yr I was originally all for the Conine deal as well, but I've been thinking. If we keep at this and get deep into the playoffs (perhaps even win it all) then don't you think all the guys will be willing to take a little less money to stay with the team to keep it together? I think so.

I think so. They all probably MIGHT be willing to take a TINY bit less if we make the playoffs, and the team would probably be willing to increase its payroll somewhat as well...
