February 2, 200521 yr No, Miami is a town that supports winners, and as long as the team is competitive they'll show up. The stadium deal, I am sorry to tell you, is on verge of being finalized. The local deal is basically in place and the stadium is picking up a lot of steam in Tallahasee. And, just so you know, Las Vegas doesn't even have a stadium where any MLB team can play. Plus, MLB would NEVER allow a team to play in Vegas because of the gambling issues. I know you'd rather not face the Marlins every year and go 4-15, but unfortunately you'll have to keep losing to us. And about the injuries, you can say that about any team, you stupid ass. If the Mets lose two starters and you can kiss a winning season goodbye. We lost AJ Burnett for all of 2003, we lost Josh for 2 months in 2003, we lost Mike Lowell for a month in 2003... oh, and how did we do that year? Hmmm. If I recall correctly, we won the World Series. We lost Josh a number of times last year and only had AJ for half the season, and we were still in the Wild Card hunt in mid September. Our team is good at dealing with injuries. Every team has injuries... and the really good teams overcome those injuries and perform well anyway. Don't give me your injury excuse from last year... your team was never any good.
February 2, 200521 yr could this board get any dumber? jeez 675167 It's this a**hole Mets fan.

Your rotation is a lot weaker in terms of depth compared to 2003, Beckett or Burnett go down and you won't have a chance. You replaced an innings eater like Pavano with a broken down old man in Al Leiter. You replaced a capable 5th starter in Mark Redman with a Ismael Valdes, who hasn't been anything near a decent pitchers in 5 years. Not even the Marlins can keep dodging bullets.

There was a blowup after they learned of the meeting with Las Vegas city officials, but it's been mended and things are on the upswing. How about you do some research before you say such stupid things. There are a lot of options available, and even the guy that called the Marlins "terrorists" is trying to see if they can divert the money they gave to Huizenga to the Marlins and their new stadium. Unless you actually know something, STFU. How do you know we don't have some rookie like Dontrelle? No one even knew who D-Train was before he came up, and he came up out of nowhere. We have two top prospects that we think can be like D-Train: Scott Olsen and Yorman Bazardo. You don't know s*** about our team, why don't you just go back to where you came from and shut the f*** up, bitch. What if the Mets lose Pedro and Glavine? What happens then? You suck even with those two pitchers, and you would suck even harder if you lost them.
February 2, 200521 yr Willis caught lightning in a bottle, there's no possible way either of those Single-A pitchers will the same kind of jump. The only reason Dontrelle had any success was his funky delivery, and look what happened last year when the league got used to it. He got lit up. As for Pedro and Glavine, you're exactly right, we would be screwed without them as well. That's the point I've been trying to make all along, any team can be go from contenders to chumps with one injury.

So both those guys are technically in the same position as Willis this time in 2003.

And stop saying the Mets suck. You and I know that isnt true(atleast on paper).... You said "at worst" we could be a 2nd place team. I beg to differ. We could be 4th in this division. There are 4 very good teams in the NL East. Just because the Mets have sucked before, doesnt necessarily mean they will continue to suck. Same goes for the Phils
February 2, 200521 yr On paper we're at worst the 2nd best team in the NL East. Of course, both the Mets and the Phils could perform above expectations and maybe add a few quality players through trades and do better than us, but the bottom line is on paper we're 1st or 2nd. The game is played on the field, not on paper. I understand that. But we're in a much better position at the start of the season than the Mets. (Their injury problems have already started... they lost Yates for the entire season.)
February 2, 200521 yr Injury problems? Losing a guy who probably wasn't going to make the team means we're totally screwed. Might as well just give the Marlins the WS trophy now.

Might as well just give the Marlins the WS trophy now. 675195 Regardless, we're a better team right now. If both teams stay healthy, we're a better team. In terms of potential, we have a higher ceiling for 2005. Bottom line.

February 2, 200521 yr pre-season predictions doesn't mean a thing. There are many factors in baseball (one of the most unpredictable sports) with that said, I like our chances. But every single team in the NL East, can compete. Mets_bs, you were going OK, until you brought up the Vegas sh*t. This team has a window of opportunity to win now. I commend the FO for stepping up and signing Delgado. For a small market team, we may not have the same opportunity in a long time. In addition, Mets can't afford to overpaid. I know the Mets are Yankee's wanabees, but last spending spree resulted in a disaster that you haven't recovered yet. Bottom line, you aren't the Yankees or Red Sox.
February 2, 200521 yr Well, what do you want me to say. If the Marlins lose their starting five along with Cabrera, Delgado, and Lowell, we're still better than the Mets at full strength. All I am saying is, all things being equal in terms of injuries, the Marlins are a better team. No one can predict injuries. But when you put together a team, you try to make it as strong as possible assuming everyone on it will get a chance to contribute a lot. Real depth is a luxury no team but the Yankees have. And Maverick, as of now the Marlins are a better team than the Mets. Don't give me the "this is arguable" BS.

I do admit that was a bit overboard, these little teenagers who can barely type a sentence and have no idea what they're talking about get on your nerves fast. But in my defense, I made my first comment in an attempt to discuss baseball in a civil manner.
