February 5, 200521 yr WOW, i cant belive how many people are saying no! I thought it was going to say 98 Yes 2 No 677597[/snapback] Well to be honest it's been shown that public funded stadiums don't pay for themselves, never have people have long exagerrated the effects that the tourism and whatever else they bring have. If I wasn't a Fish fan I might vote no.
February 5, 200521 yr Why would people want their tax money going to something they will never use it on. Probably 75% of the people living in South Florida if not more will never go to a baseball game or to the stadium but they still helped to 'pay' for it through taxes and people look at that and get pissed because to them it is just a waste of money.
February 5, 200521 yr I am disappointed in how many say they dont want taxpayer money going to a stadium. First off, its not property taxes, its taxes designated for this sort of purpose. Also, there is such a thing called a community-and sports is part of a community. To be honest, Ill probably never to to the cultural arts center, to most of the museums, rarely to public libraries, not very often to parks, but do I have any problem paying for them? of course not, its part of the community.
February 5, 200521 yr The question is false and misleading. The funds they are getting are not "public funds", i.e., they are the result of taxes collected primarily from the tourist industry and are earmarked for the express purposes they are being used for. Not one penny of these funds can be used to, for example, build a school or fund schoolbooks, train or assist the handicapped, pve roads, etc. Channel 10 had another survey about 6-10 weeks ago that resulted in a resounding favorable vote the Fish. As for the vote totals, Channel 10 usually sets up their polls so that people can vote multiple times. The against could be one person voting 227 times. (hint hint)
February 5, 200521 yr Obviously this isn't a scientific poll. I'm surprised that "Yes" is in the majority still. I figured it'd be like 70% No, 30% Yes.

February 6, 200521 yr you cant vote more than once from the same IP. anything after the first vote doesn't count.
February 6, 200521 yr At last count it was 318-228...c'mon guys let's put the Fish WAY OVER THE TOP !!!!
February 7, 200521 yr I don't think any funds should got to a crummy little stadium in the Orange Bowl area... the traffic in and out of there will be much worse than the Pro. Why do I want to take a step down from what it is now...I've spoke to many people!! Who feel the same way...the funny thing, is that none of them are on this board How many seats will that new park sit?? Thirty thousand something?? Do they want people fighting to get in there if they make post season? You don't have to worry about that now? Plenty of room for everybody! And to park too.. And it doesn't make you a non-Marlin's Fan if you vote the way you do in Ch 10's poll.

There will be more parking and traffic control available in 2008 than there is now. But seriously, where in South Florida can you go where there is no traffic? BTW, 38,000 seats is pretty good a size for a baseball stadium. If you can't get a season ticket package or be lucky enough to get in line early, you must watch it on TV or listen on the radio. This is baseball, not football. Get used to it.

Because Football is one game a week Sir! And not even every week...Baseball can be every night of the week.... Nobody has a problem, such as traffic, who just has to go to ONE event, one day!
