February 10, 200521 yr the phillies, braves, and mets (let's not forget them) have a good chance of winning this division. hell, if i'm not mistaken, the mets have better odds than us at winning the pennant.

February 10, 200521 yr Wow rferry.. im not sure how that was funny. I think they have the best 4some in the division. Wagner is the best closer in the division. Worrell is a very solid, proven set up man.. Madson is just plain filthy and he could end up being the primary set up man. Cormier is one of the top LH specialists in the league. Nothing funny about that... I'm not sure what their plans are for Gavin Floyd but he could be factored in as well.

February 10, 200521 yr Cormier? Worrell? :lol FRod's not on the team any more. Wagner are very overrated IMO. A $9M speed pitcher preying on fatigued batters. Wouldn't turn him away, but he's not in the class of Gagne and Rivera. Not even in the same class as Benitez.
February 10, 200521 yr wagner is pretty nasty (the game i saw him pitch for houston, when they beat beckett 2-1 in summer 2003, our guys were hardly even swinging at him), but, their rotation is mediocre. as for the mets, beltran is great, but i dont think pedro is going to help them that much, i dont know if he`s really an improvement over leiter. theyre the orioles of the NL - they throw a lot of money at some big-name guys over the offseason and get a lot of attention, but top to bottom they usually dont put that great on the team. i think the braves have to be the favorite because they won the division so convincingly last season and should be better with hudson, kolb, and smoltz as a starter, but the marlins can beat them out if their new-look offense stays healthy and if beckett and burnett deliver according to their potential. i dont see the phils or mets competing for the title unless both the southern teams crash and burn and give them a chance to be the vultures. otherwise, i think it will come down to some close games between florida and atlanta
February 10, 200521 yr Phillies haven't played to their potential the past couple of years. No they don't have BOWA, they have a fun-loving positive grandpa-type figure. Sound familiar?? They beat us at the end of last season a heck of a lot.

Regardless of your bias, their stats suggest they did well. Worrell had a 3.68 ERA last season, since 2000 he's had a 2.99, 3.45, 2.25, 2.87, and last year 3.68 ERA... And he's laughable why? Because he's old? Is he going to stink next season because he's old? You know this because? Cormier is decent, he too had a good season last year, Madson is better than any relief pitcher on our team. Who cares what they are paying Wagner, he has a career 2.52 ERA, 246 career saves. When he's healthy he is an elite closer.

February 10, 200521 yr Cromier is not good. I still think the marlins are the best in the division but hte division race will probably go down till the last few weeks.
February 10, 200521 yr Worrell and Cormeir are decent. Servicable league-average arms. The suggestion that they are key parts of an outstanding bullpen is laughable though.
February 10, 200521 yr The Phillies underachieved last year. I'm still somewhat shocked that they weren't closer to the division title. 681545[/snapback] They have underachieved the past few years
