So me and my buddy are coming to see the Marlins in May. Arriving on May 5th and staying for at least 5 nights. Will get to see the Rockies and Astros. Looks like we are staying at the Hard Rock as we are poker players.

Looking for any suggestions as to what we should do. My buddy insists we go to the dog races. We are both 24, so I expect us to be partying it up a few nights. Any clubs or night life that is a must?

Also, in terms of the Marlins games, is there any must pre-game spot/activity or post game thing to do?

If you're not staying at the Hard Rock (and you should if proximity to the ballpark is important), it's the best place to gamble in South Florida.

Depending on how important chasing skirts is, and your age, Las Olas in Ft lauderdale and Ocean Dr/South beach/Miami Beach is the place to go. Post what kinds of food you like and I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions on great places to dine.

There's alot wrong with South Florida but in the end, it's paradise! I hope you have a great time on your visit.

Don't forget your glove.

Don't waste your time at the dog tracks, they're terrible. Go to South Beach, Las Olas, CityWalk, and since you'll be here in May the NHL will probably be playing again so you may be able to go to a Panthers game.

Fat chance of that.

Obviously you haven't turned on the TV today...

Well I'm only 19, so I don't really know if you would enjoy the same things that I do--BUT

if you do stay at Hard Rock, don't use the slots. They suck. And the tables are always full to capacity--I don't know if they've added blackjack tables, but it's a really long wait from what I've heard at the poker tables.

Las Olas is a great place to go. If you can make it to Miami without getting lost, South Beach is..er..interesting. Calle Ocho is nice.

You'll be in Hollywood if you stay at the Hard Rock. I think you'll find enough things to do there, let alone anywhere else.

And as for pre-game activities or post-game...I mean, you can hit up a Hooters or Quarterdeck, but Marlin's games don't really have the following of a Dolphin's game. And since I'm still very much underage :whistle , I don't really know too many sports hangouts.

we can go to the zoo!

Thanks for the replies.

For food we will hook up some steakhouses I'm sure and my friend is always a fan of going to authentic Mexican restaurants. Any suggestions?

Is Las Olas a club or a part of the city?

Any places we should avoid?

I'm from philly but I've been in Ft. Lauderdale a few times in my life. My favorite places to eat were the Road House and Shooters. If you go to Shooters on a Sat. afternoon you can be entertained for hours..... the boats that pull up are ridiculous.

Fishy i will let you know if I'm ever in South Florida, so I can take you out for a brew.

Hard rock is a nice place to stay at. the hard rock has a section called Paradise that has a lot to do e.g.

Comedy club

billiard club

Passion a night club

has a real cool bar called "The Park" which is a sports bar TV's everywhere.

it also has a bar called tequila Ranch which has a mechanical bull. (ride it when your drunk)

Hooters

Johnny rockets

JAZZ Club

The poker is not bad but it does get really packed.

They have tournaments and $1/$2 texas hold em as well as 7 card stud and omaha hi lo

you have to go to south beach and Visit Mansion (make sure its a friday that's the best night) on washington Ave make sure you dress to impress here because there picky but you will have a great time there.

LAS Olas is cool but i've noticed it has been getting really ghetto.

in downtown miami there is a club called Space which is also awesome its from 11pm to 12Pm yes i typed it correctly its open till noon the next day.

trust me when i got to work at 8am on Monday mornings there's still people trying to get in.

if you want visit a strip club

tootsies is not bad and its 5 minutes from the stadium so after the marlins finish beating up the astros you could go there and have some fun.

thats all i think of right now when it gets closer to that date let us know so we could post any new things that are available.

Also if you want a good steak (don't know your price range) but Ruth Chris in FTL is a good steak house. to give you an idea a tbone steak will run you about $40 but its the best i ever had.

Have a great time :D :D :D :D

yeah, Las Olas has been getting ghetto recently.

there are a few good strip clubs down biscayne boulevard... and even one swingers' club. check them out.

also, this is big advice, but if you've got the money, go to a good south beach club, buy a bottle of wine or alcohol and get yourselves into the VIP section. then, just start smiling at women and of the ones that smile back and are fine, just point at them and tell them you're inviting them into VIP. then, enjoy yourselves with nice looking women.

I haven't checked up on this recently, but Dontrelle Willis used to frequent the Hooters on Pines and University after games (but, to my recollection, not the games he'd pitch).

And as far as stuff near the stadium that's baseball related, that's all that jumps to mind.
