Benitez in pinstripes

The Yankees and Mets sealed a deal July 16, sending All-Star closer Armando Benitez across town for right-handed pitchers Jason Anderson, Anderson Garcia and Ryan Bicondoa. Sources told ESPN's Peter Gammons that the Yankees agreed to absorb the remaining money on Benitez's contract for the rest of this season, or about $3 million. The Yankees know first-hand of Benitez's fragile psyche. He set off a nasty brawl between the Orioles and Yankees in 1998 when he drilled Tino Martinez in the middle of the back following a home run by Bernie Williams.

Well everybody is happy. He said he liked NY so he stays in NY and the mets get rid of him. Meanwhile the Yanks get some bullpen help. With Benitez setting up Rivera. That's scary.

I knew we wouldnt get him since we got Urbina....he is going to be very good for the yanks even though they already got a closer but maybe he will be a set up man. The BoSox must be mad about this!

sigh... god damn u yanks

yeah... uh... most Yankee fans not only can't stand Benitez - but we also used to look forward to batting against him b/c he is such a choke artist...

[sigh]

And we gave up farm pitching to get him too [shaking head]...
