Admin
Link to February 28th Entry | Link to March 1st Entry | Link to March 3rd Entry | Link to March 4th Entry March 6, 2005 sorry i haven't been as quick to write a journal entry. as i noted in one of the previous ones, my father is in town and i've been hanging out with him after the games. today was another loss for the fish. final game score was 5-1. before the game though, spooneybarger threw his first live batting practice of the season. afterwards i talked with him for a few seconds and he said he felt fine. he only threw fastballs for about 8 minutes to some of the hitters. i'm sure everyone is anxious for his return. back to the game. AJ got hit hard during the top of the second, but he didn't seem to mind, nor did anyone else really. after all, it's spring training, and we're here to get our work in. the main goal for the pitcher is to pound the strike zone. plus it's not like AJ's gonna lose his spot in the rotation. haha. he gave up 4 runs on i don't know how many hits. the only other run they earned was off reliever (i forget the inning) kevin olsen. he seemed to be pitchin around a few batters instead of going right at them. a lot of people think that hitting is very easy, that if you throw it right down the middle of the plate it's going to be a hit. but more often than none, a hitter will get himself out even if the pitch is right down the middle of the plate. on defense, derek wathan made a few nice plays at third base. i played with him all last year and he has an exceptional glove no matter where you put him. as for our offense, joe dillon had another hit. we only scored one run. i remember wilson getting on, but i don't remember how. wathan then walked. all i know is that we had the bases loaded and hermida (i think) hit a ground ball to first base. he got out but picked up a RBI in the process. only regular starter to start today was castillo. someone probably not talked about but i thought i'd mention him because he's my former roommate. haha. matt padgett. he had a great at-bat today. he got 0-2 quick, but managed to foul off 5 or 6 more pitches, even seeing a ball or two, and then hit a hard line drive off the pitchers glove hand causing him to leave the game. tomorrow's a split squad game with the 1:05 down in fort lauderdale, and the 7:05 up here in jupiter. i'll be staying back for the night game, so i won't have a recap of the day game for y'all. FYI - for those who were askin, i'm from texas - that's why i say y'all a lot. haha.

Flamarlins3
No need for apologies...awesome stuff again Anyways, great news that Spooney felt no pain...hopefully he will be able to get out on the mound late in Spring Training If there was room for Wathan I'd love to see him in the majors...seems like the guy can play any position really and isn't that bad with the stick. Would be a nice Mordy replacement, but I don't think we have the room
x shOrtii x
Good Job Jorgie! Do you like country music and if you do which artists do you like? I see you said you are from Texas so I am wondering because I listen to some of it.

prinmemito
I always look forward to reading Jorg's journal. It's always great to hear a player's perspective when it comes direcly from him rather than an answer to a reporter's questions. I know that Jorg is a humble guy, but I would love to hear a little more about his own experiences on the field, how he feels he's doing, how he thinks stands with the Marlins organization... you know, just get a taste of what a player goes through when he's trying to make the team. We're all pulling so hard for him... it would be awesome to kind of go through the ride with him. Good luck in the game tomorrow night Jorg!! Lefty
He's also acting as an inside reporter--findout out the status of Spooney He's a very amicable guy, and he seems humble. He felt bad that he missed a day in his journal, but I think we're surprised that we've been receiving the entries so frequently. When he first started the journal, I thought he'd write maybe one or two a week--but he's been pumping them out every other day. It's great! He had a great day in the field today and got a solid single as well.
