Luckily AA's contract is based on performance so it isn't like this will cost us alot of $$$ if this lasts a while.

If we bring up anybody I'd like to see how well the Fish can do with 11 pitchers (the pen certainly hasn't been overused of late) and bring up someone like Mark Little (this year's Joe Dillon) or another bat for a looksee, maybe even Andino, although Gonzo wouldn't like that move one bit.

Not sure why you would want to bring Andino up like that...

Willingham or Wilson would be a better choice over him..... as would Little and Dillon

Alfonseca leaves game with elbow pain

By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com

MIAMI -- Marlins reliever Antonio Alfonseca experienced pain in his right elbow Thursday night and will have an MRI on Friday to determine the severity of the injury

Alfonseca said after the Marlins lost, 10-1, to the Mets at Dolphins Stadium that his arm has bothered him for about three weeks. He added that he doesn't believe the injury is serious.

"I didn't want to chance blowing up in a 10-1 game," Alfonseca said. "I said, 'That's it.' It's been sore for three weeks. Maybe I need a couple of days' rest."

The veteran setup right-hander was in discomfort in the sixth inning while facing Victor Diaz. After recording a swinging strike to Diaz on a 71 mph pitch, Alfonseca winced and walked behind the mound. Team trainer Sean Cunningham trotted to the mound, and seconds later, the right-hander walked to the dugout.

Making his sixth appearance, Alfonseca is a pivotal performer in the bullpen. In his second stint with the Marlins, Alfonseca signed as a free agent last December after spending 2004 with the Braves.

Health was an issue for Alfonseca at the time he signed with the Marlins. Before the deal was official, the 33-year-old who has been plagued by a previous back problem. And he failed a physical because of a herniated disk in his lower back.

Manager Jack McKeon says that Alfonseca's velocity has been down for about three weeks.

If Alfonseca is out for a prolonged period of time, the Marlins have depth in the back end of the 'pen with Todd Jones, Jim Mecir, John Riedling, Nate Bump and Matt Perisho.

This season Alfonseca is 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA in 5 2/3 innings.

Hopefully, the worst case scenario is him just taking the weekend off...
