May 4, 200521 yr Author now official VARGAS VENTURES UPWARD May 4, 2005 (GREENSBORO, NC) The Greensboro Grasshoppers announced today that left-handed pitcher Jason Vargas has been promoted to Class High-A Jupiter while right-hander Jeff Allison has been removed from the inactive list and given a prospective start date of Thursday, May 5. To make room for Vargas, the Hammerheads released pitcher Josh Teekel (whom they just picked up in the rule 5 draft a few months back)

He probably will only pitch a few innings a game to build up his arm strength anyway.

May 5, 200521 yr Allison's first start: Pitcher Jeff Allison, the Marlins' first-round pick in 2003, will make his first start of the season Thursday. Allison, who is battling back from a number of personal problems, will start for the Greensboro Grasshoppers in a 7 p.m. ET contest at home vs. Delmarva. In other Minor League news, left-hander Jason Vargas has been promoted from Greensboro to Class A Jupiter. In low Class A, the 22-year-old Vargas was 4-1. He was the Marlins' second-round pick in 2004.
