The San Diego Padres are coming off a successful road trip against the best and worst of the NL Central.

They will now try to continue that strong play against the top two teams in the NL East as they open a six-game homestand with a matchup against the Florida Marlins.

San Diego won three of four games from the first-place St. Louis Cardinals last weekend before taking two of three from the struggling Cincinnati Reds.

In the decisive game against the Reds on Wednesday, rookie Tim Stauffer had a successful major league debut. The 21-year-old right-hander gave up two runs, four hits and three walks in six innings, and Ryan Klesko hit a three-run homer to lead the Padres to a 7-2 victory, giving manager Bruce Bochy career win No. 800.

Stauffer, the fourth overall pick in the 2003 draft, was recalled from Triple-A Portland on Monday after struggling right-hander Tim Redding was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Stauffer overcame a shaky start as he allowed a two-run homer to Felipe Lopez and loaded the bases in the first inning before getting a double play and lineout.

``It really wasn't nerves,'' Stauffer said. ``I'm sure for the people in the stands, it was a little bit different and harder for them. I was grateful to get out of that with just two runs.''

Mark Loretta had five hits and Dave Roberts added four -- each matching their career high -- for the Padres, who have scored at least five runs in seven of their last eight games. San Diego, which next faces the Atlanta Braves, will try to keep its hot hitting going against the team that leads the league with a 2.67 ERA and five shutouts.

Dontrelle Willis, who has two of those shutouts, allowed one run and six hits in eight innings as the Marlins beat the Houston Astros 2-1 on Wednesday. Damion Easley, who has started the last two games at second base with Luis Castillo bothered by a strained thigh muscle, hit a two-run homer in the third inning. Castillo could miss this series.

``I didn't know if it was gone because of where I hit it,'' said Easley of his 405-foot shot to straightaway center field. ``I didn't miss any of it, but (in Dolphins Stadium), you never know.''

Miguel Cabrera also missed Wednesday's game with a slight groin pull, but is expected to be back in the lineup for this series.

771766[/snapback]

He had 3 hits that game, it was on August 22nd. I can't get the box score to tell you who he hit the home run off of though, but when I get it I'll tell you.

Here's a link to read about the game-Link

Juan Pierre had three hits, including a home run, as the Marlins claimed an 8-2 win.

It's going to be kewl watching a baseball game at 10 of PM.

Yay! I love personal jokes in a public forum! lol :p

Anyways, I've been noticing that in the past few games JP has tried to hit a few gappers and he's hitting the ball further. Maybe he can get another HR off of Eaton..

For good this time.

*end crazy dream*

Yay! I've been watching Devil Rays-Royals for about an hour now.

Nothing like cellar-dweller baseball to make you appreciate what you have.

Petco Park

The worst park in the major leagues to hit a home run in.

Why the hell is PAX having issues with video?

That's why this network is going off the air.

FSN will have all 150 locally televised Marlins games in 2006. Just one more season of PAX....think of that.

To those with MLB.tv....are they airing Marlins TV/PAX or Channel 4 Padres?
