I'm all for getting Zach Day

Featured Replies

What's so good about Zach Day? I just looked at his stats and they don't look so impressive. Are you guys talking about him as being a starter or a reliever if he came to this team?

The reason I think we should pick up another starting pitcher in a trade is simply depth. If Pierre and Lowell don't break out of these slumps, then we've got guys like Conine, Dillon, and Willingham who could step in and take their places if we need them to and they can do a good job. If Leiter never comes around, who do we have? Ishmael Valdez? One of our AA pitchers? No thanks. Valdez sucks and has always sucked and we've seen what happens when we've called up our young prospects from AA.

Two things about Day's stats:

1. Day is a groundball pitcher and was pitching on turf last year and in front of a terrible defensive infield (range-wise) this year.

2. He wasn't Frank Robinson's favorite, or 2nd, 3rd or 4th.... He was afraid of Frank.

He's got a lot of promise and could very well realize it on another team.

I wonder how much he really would be worth, sans a three-team deal to get Graves or Wilson.

Enc is the hottest he has been in a long time, and we won't sign him as a FA (just like we didn't after 2003), so I agree he can be held as trade bait. But giving Enc and cash for a mediocre pitcher that nobody wants isn't exactly a fair trade.

That's what I was thinking using him as trade bait.

well, here's the thing - you can't have it both ways. Enc is a mediocre player too, he's just really hot right now. but it's not like the other teams don't know what's going on. they have eyes too, and they can read the stat sheets. just because Enc has hit a couple grand slams this year doesn't mean that suddenly teams will be ready to deal us a blue-chipper for him. let's keep some perspective here - two months ago, we couldn't have even gotten the Nats to talk to us about Enc for a ham sandwich, much less offer us a young pitcher who has maintained a pretty darn good ERA throughout his career until this year. i think this would have been a great deal.

agree with you Agon11

but day for enc sounds alittle eh. i think we can get more.
