Loria to team: Staff is safe

MIAMI GARDENS ? Despite the Marlins' recent struggles, the jobs of hitting coach Bill Robinson and the rest of manager Jack McKeon's staff appear to be safe for now.

 

That was the message delivered to the team and staff before Friday's game by Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria in a closed-door meeting.

 

Loria and General Manager Admin Beinfest called the meeting after The Palm Beach Post that day quoted several unnamed players who said McKeon's abrasive style was causing friction.

 

The team was told there would be no changes to the main roster or staff. Players also were told to keep team concerns within the clubhouse and out of the media.

 

Neither Loria nor Beinfest would comment.

Clearly Loria was trying to calm the team as they headed into the Texas series. So far it looks like it had a positive impact. :thumbup

 

Too bad for all of us who would like to see Bill Robinson replaced. :plain

It may have had a positive impact for now but the one thing MLB teams do not want to happen is to have the fans find out how dirty they treat some players. I am talking about the guys who are not the "names".

I personally don't have a problem with players talking to the press. If the FO and staff are treating their players in a professional way, they don't have anything to worry about. Unfortunately last week, that did not happen in several instances. I can tell you that I look at the FO and McKeon and staff in a completely different light since then.

I am not going to explain anything. Everyone knows what happened last week. From the way Jack treated Mota on the mound to not even knowing the first name of a guy they got rid of. AND that's all I will say. I am allowed to have my opinion. A lot of this comes from years of observation. Not just about the Marlins.

Opinions based on observations, everyone is entitled. Ohka did the same thing with Robinson, got chewed out, then traded. That is the problem in today's game. The players with the large salaries think they are above all else. Luckily we have guys like Harris, Pierre, Mordy,Conine who are professional and dont show up the team, manager or themselves. Whether they can play or not, there is always room on a team for these types.

Anyways, we have a chance to sweep the Rangers, a great team who has scored the most runs in the majors. So I think were getting off of our slump and were hitting, no need to fire Robinson.

Eat crow about what? That Loria actually had to reassure the team and staff that they would not see changes that involved staff movement? The possibility that Loria had to consider dismissing Robinson was great enough that he had to personally reassure players he would not be fired?

 

To me it sounds like we "Robinson haters" were heard and the changes were not made to help ease the player's concerns about causing him to lose his job. This has more to do with comforting the players than with Robinson's performance.

Exactly. 2 wins doesn't change too much.

 

Today we had 7 LOB, went 2/9 with RISP and didn't even have a runner on for the last 4 innings......not exactly a stellar performance by the offense.

Why, because it's gotten so bad that people actually fear for their jobs (aside from Robinson)?

 

We hit well against one of the less stellar pitching teams in all of baseball, and, in what was in my opinion the most winnable game of the series, we still choked big time. Sorry, this offense still isn't close to being "ready."

This is usually a sign someone is about to lose their job. That vote of confidence has cost many managers, coaches and GM's.
