Mota to Rangers?

Featured Replies

He had to have done that on purpose. That was right down the middle.

He didn't do it on purpose, he just made one mistake. It looked like he was going to have a very nice inning after getting 2 quick outs. And the inning even looked positive after the single. But he just made a very bad mistake. Atleast he has good movement on his pitches.

I wasn't being entirely serious there...

Good.

Btw-That was only his 2nd home run allowed this season in 17 innings. And he didn't pitch so bad today considering his previous performances and the fact that the Rangers are the best hitting team in the majors.

he is still pitching like ass

I dunno why you people defend him he sucks and he is just hurting the team. Every time he goes out they do damage to him he should just take his 6+ ERA and shove it.

is not about defending him. He is struggling, but have the best stuff out of the bullpen. Do you bench a guy like that or let him work out his problems?

If he weren't having attitude problems i'd let him work it out in AAA

why? even struggling, he is still better that half of our bullpen and will get the job done most of the time.

Funny how the same people who wanted to keep Lowell and Pierre are demanding Mota be traded.

No.

He has only allowed 2 home runs in 17 innings=fact and great.

And he got 2 quick outs and then he allowed a single on a ball that just found an openning and then made 1 mistake and that cost him 2 runs. He was almost and could have been out of the inning faster than you could say "Like a good neighbor StateFarm is there." :p He just screwed up on ONE pitch. Usually pitchers can mess up on one pitch, but he just happened to have got nailed for that 1 pitch.

He really didn't pitch so bad today.

Mota continues to dig the hole deeper for himself.

At this point I would only put him into blowouts until he shows he can get his command back. Plenty of bullpen sessions could help.

I don't want to be insensitive or set a level of expectation that is unobtainable, but for a guy who wants (demands) to be the closer for this team, he can't be making these kinds of "mistakes" appearance after appearance. The whole objective in closing out a game is to be as "perfect" as humanly possible.

And to FreshFish, with all due respect, not to be argumentative, but he isn't "better than half our bullpen", at least not right now.

Well he must be crazy if he thinks he should be the closer with his previous performances and the great production that we've been getting out of Todd Jones.

He won't be in the closing role so he doesn't have to be perfect everytime he pitches.

807066

How is that significant?

807076

Slumps happen. Injuries happen. Mota is still recovering. He wants to play to point of alienating his manager and fans. He is needed so he often becomes the goat of the game.

Does ANYONE have reason to believe he won't be a good pitcher later this year?

I'd be vehemently opposed to this, unless we got a simply amazing deal. Yes, Jones has been a stud, but next year, who knows if we'll have him? He's up there in age, he could be a one year wonder, and the year he's having this year could push his stock up.

I appreciate the opinions of those who think we should be patient with Mota. IMO, he hasn't done anything to deserve our patience...between letting up gads of runs, and whining while doing it, I just don't think there's enough upside to justify keeping him around. However, his trade value is plummeting with every outing, to the point now where we might not be able to get even a decent 5th starter for him. I don't know what the solution is. We can't keep putting him out there because he sucks, and if we stick him on the DL or don't play him, he'll probably whine about it and send his negative vibes throughout the clubhouse. He is really hurting the team, and while some of you seem confident that he'll turn it around, I haven't seen any evidence. At this point, I'd be willing to deal him for a mid-level prospect, just so we don't have to pay him anymore.

You can make a case that he was the worst...look at the WHIP.

i agree completely, and i think it's playing with fire to keep someone around who is clearly on such bad terms with the coaching staff. there are probably some other teams who would take a chance on him to improve their bullpen, on the chance that a change of scenery would do him good.

Update after today. Mota now is clearly the worst reliever on the team.

So what do you do? He wants and needs the work. Trade him immediately? Use him in less tense spots? Status quo?
