June 16, 200521 yr Author Point of clarity here, and this goes back to another thread for Juanky's generalizations about people who "hate" Enc.... I don't understand something here... are you guys defending Enc's half-assing or are you saying it hasn't happened? I sure hope you think it didn't happen because I don't know how anyone can defend someone who isn't giving 100% every single day... and THATS why I want Conine in the lineup. I don't "hate" Enc, I hate his effort. I'm sure some of you have played, or play, sports in high school. When I played basketball, baseball and soccer in high school, nothing was more infuriating to see one of your teammates half-assing it. It leads to people getting on people's cases, disruption of team chemistry, etc and has an all around bad effect on the team. Now maybe some of you don't put as much stock in this as me but I want someone out there who is busting their ass every inning of every game.
June 16, 200521 yr Encarnacion is my favorite Marlin. 812135 Are you a Dodgers fan? 812147 No, I just think he's a very good player, and so far this year he has come through with big hits and above avarage defense (a couple of errors), so stop hating on the guy u f***ing retards. :whistle
June 16, 200521 yr enc is also one of y favorite players mostly because of how so laid back he is, its not that he isnt trying hard, its that thats his style of play.
June 16, 200521 yr Encarnacion is neither a player I love or hate. He's an above average major league right fielder defensively. Unless you actually see him play (as opposed to watching him on tv) one might not see the terrific jump he usually gets on the ball. And because he has a long stride, he's often appears to be dogging it when he's just timing his intersection with the ball. There are things about him that drive me crazy defensively. Mostly his penchant for catching the ball one-handed and appearing nonchalant, which for some gives the impression his heart isn't in what he's doing. Encarnacion has several million rea$ons to do well this season. All in all he's had a good, if not great season for the Fish, he's certainly done better than even the most optimistic among expected, but that said if he is used for tradebait to acquire someone who can legitimately improve the team, that will be fine with me too.
June 16, 200521 yr you shouldnt be mad about his " nonchalant" type of play, thats just the way he likes to do things
June 16, 200521 yr I didn't say I was "mad", the operative word in that sentence was "appearing", which is to say he gives the impression of playing without emotion, which I don't think is the case.
June 16, 200521 yr Enc has an OPS over .800 I'm just happy that we're finally getting that type of production from him.

Enc has performed well above expectations this year and doesn't deserve all this flack he is receiving from members of this board. That being said, he is an average RFer and if we make a trade that improves the team I wouldn't be heartbroken. Enc is still the best option on the team for RF. His defense is superior to Conine's and his offense so far is every bit as good as one might expect from Conine.

I think because we both sit upstairs we share the same view of the game and can watch Enc (and everyone else for that matter) from a perspective others downstairs can't, and certainly isn't available via tv, we may see the game differently than someone sitting at home. By the time tv cuts to the ball in the outfield more times than not you've missed the anticipatory good jump, etc. I still say moving upstairs was the best move I ever made as a season ticket holder. While I miss the "up close and personal" feeling downstairs, the fact that you can watch plays unfold (seeing how everyone moves on the field in concert) really makes it worth it.

June 16, 200521 yr $$$ was and isn't the reason we moved upstairs. We did it because it seemed no matter where we sat downstairs there was always a six footer in front of my kid and we also were sick of people in the aisles during innings, vendors planting themselves in your line of sight, etc. Both PB and I, in different sections, did the same thing, which is to move upstairs and land front row upperdeck seats. He's behnd home plate, I'm behind homeplate on a line with first base.
June 16, 200521 yr awsome, thatts great that u get a PERFECT view up there, i should try that some time
June 16, 200521 yr Author Oh, I'm not mad at his "nonchallant", half-assing play... I'm just disgusted and embarrassed by it. Ok, maybe I am a little mad at it.
June 16, 200521 yr If he's getting great jumps then why isn't he getting to balls? The two in Atlanta were awful. He just gave up on one that landed a few feet behind him, and he jogged to the other in the corner while guys were circling the bases. He's done that several times this season with balls in the corner. He didn't get to the ball in Chicago the other night either. Maybe it's just a matter of perception, but he sure doesn't give the impression that he's giving it his all in the field. I have no quibbles with his hitting. He's exceeded my expectations there, and I don't think Conine would be doing any better at the plate.
