Reminder: 2005 Marlins Park & Ride is up

Miami-Dade Transit will provide Park and Ride bus service to Florida Marlins' weekend games at Dolphins Stadium for the 2005 season.

The buses will depart from the following four locations an hour and a half (90 minutes) before the start of the game:

Hialeah Metrorail Station, 115 East 21st Street

Dadeland North Metrorail Station, 8310 South Dixie Highway

Tamiami Park, Coral Way (Southwest 24th Street) and 117th Avenue, near the batting cages.

Golden Glades, 16000 NW 7th Avenue

Bus service to the Marlins games will end one hour after the conclusion of the game.

The fare is $7.00 roundtrip from Hialeah Metrorail Station, Dadeland North Metrorail Station and Tamiami Park. The Golden Glades fare is $4.00. Golden Passport and monthly Metro passes will be accepted.

For more information, call MDT Customer Services at 305-770-3131 or 305-891-3131 for residents south of SW 216th Street.

and if you don't feel like paying the $7

the buses also come to Marlins en Miami for FREE on Saturdays......

good to know BUT..... $4 for parking at the metrorail station and $7 for the bus trip. (unless parking is included in the $7 then disregard this) makes it $11 total. parking at the stadium is $10 and traffic on the palmetto is NOT bad on the weekends (it takes me 30minutes from the dadeland south station area to Joe Robbie Stadium aka DS). obviously the cost of gas needs to be included ($5 from dadeland south station).

I did it on Saturday a few weeks ago. From Dadeland North, there were a grand total of 4 riders. Parking can be free if you are resourceful and fast-moving.

It makes more sense for a Palm Beacher like me than it does for Miamians. If you take the Tri-Rail from West Palm Beach to Golden Glades for about $4 round trip (I think), then ride the shuttle round trip for $4 more, the total price for the trip comes to about $8.

A trip by car will run you about $8 - $16 in fuel cost alone (depending on what car you drive of course), and then the additional $10 for Parking at DS. Add tolls, if you take the Turnpike, like I do, and the total can fall between $22 - $30.

Of course there are cons: you get there and get back a lot faster if you take your car. But for a Sunday afternoon game, where's there's no rush, and the games end while there's still daylight, it's a good alternative for Palm Beachers who are on a budget.
