Posted June 20, 200519 yr Knowing our history, it would be better to win the wild card. We are in 3rd for the Wild Card right now behind Atlanta and Philly.
June 20, 200519 yr Author IMO, it's too early to be thinking about this. 817576 No way...its never too early to think about the playoffs. We just need to be a little more consistant. I can't wait for this Braves series.
June 20, 200519 yr And let's not forget, for better or worse, the Marlins have played THREE LESS GAMES than the Nationals and Braves, and FOUR LESS than the Phillies.
June 20, 200519 yr IMO, it's too early to be thinking about this. 817576 No way...its never too early to think about the playoffs. 817580 Well if you have a good first week of the season you don't say "Yay! If the playoffs were to start now we would be in it!" Whatever. The Wild Card in the N.L. will come from the East IMO. In the West, the division leading Padres are the only team with a record over .500. In the Central division, Cardinals are strongly in control, and the second place Cubs are only a half a game over .500. And then in the East, the only team that doesn't have a record over .500 are the Mets. So we just have to get second place in our division. Hopefully the Braves won't get hott and make it difficult for us because the Nationals are really playing some good ball. And the Phils probably won't be much of a challenge for us, although they hold the Wild Card at the moment and are 2 games ahead of us.

No body knows where the wild card will come from although I think it will be from the East again. The Cubs and Pads have a chance at it also. Although, I still think the Padres win their division.
June 20, 200519 yr And let's not forget, for better or worse, the Marlins have played THREE LESS GAMES than the Nationals and Braves, and FOUR LESS than the Phillies. 817587Â Also don't forget that those games get to be made up against the Rockies!
June 20, 200519 yr The Marlins need to beat the nationals for the wildcard since Atlanta has already secured the division win.
June 20, 200519 yr We can't think of wild card yet. We just have to start winning games consistently, and we work our way into the playoffs regardless of it's the division crown or the WC.
June 20, 200519 yr The Marlins need to beat the nationals for the wildcard since Atlanta has already secured the division win. 818008Â Â Pretty intresting insight that the Braves have already won the division...with 3 of their starts hurting and chipper also out....this is the year that the mighty Braves stumble...
June 20, 200519 yr The Marlins need to beat the nationals for the wildcard since Atlanta has already secured the division win. 818008 :lol I'm pretty sure that this is the year where the Atlanta Braves won't win the N.L. East. And you can count on it. WildMarlinMan2003: The Diamondbacks, Dodgers, and Cubs will all be a litte over or under .500 at the end of the season IMO. So then the Wild Card would come from the East. Right now the Phils have the Wild Card, and behind them are the Braves, and behind them is us. So as of right now, the front 3 runners for the N.L. Wild Card are all in the East. Therefore, it is highly likely that the Wild Card will come from the East in the N.L. However, the Wild Card in the A.L. would be much tougher to pick. In the West you got the Rangers, in the Central you got the Twins, Indians, and the Tigers right behind them, and in the East you got the Red Sox, Yankees, and the Blue Jays a little behind. So you have 7 teams in the A.L. who have a shot at the Wild Card.
June 20, 200519 yr I love the irony here. The Marlins are now the preseason favorites to win their division with their expensive brand new 1B and yet their trailing The Phillies. Their division counterpart who were overlooked by most preseason polls. How sweet it is.

June 21, 200519 yr It's odd that the top 3 wild card contenders are presently in the NL East. There was much speculation at the beginning of the season that the East would beat up on each other and the wild card would come from either the central or west.
June 21, 200519 yr I think its WAY to early to be talking about wildcard. the cubs were 2 games up in the WC last year w/ 7 games left and just de-bunked. and huston came out of no where to take the WC. and that all happened in august. we haven't even made it to the all-star game. the division race is the most important to us. if we aren't 2nd in the division it's going to be hard to win the WC.

June 21, 200519 yr i wouldnt even start to think of the wildcard, untill the all star break beacuse that is when you start to make your moves, i started worrying about the wildcard and the division in april last year and went crazy by july. You cant worry about something you can only control about a 1/4 of so just play some baseball.....Good Baseball
June 21, 200519 yr Boy this series with the Braves is becoming all important as we move further and further back not just in the standings but in games played. We're now four games behind Philly and the Nats in games played. Â When crunch time comes and we have to make up those games we need to have a lead in the division or September is going to be ugly around here.
June 21, 200519 yr It does not matter if we our 2 games back, as long as we win the wild card who cares, the whole point is to win the world series, nothing else, thats why the marlins play, thats why we our talking about this right now, its all about the world series.
