June 20, 200521 yr Vargas is really flying through the system Allen Baxter, Florida's number 27 prospect(Baseball America) was also promoted to Jupiter
June 20, 200521 yr Author (GREENSBORO, NC) The Florida Marlins announced today that right-handed pitcher Allen Baxter has been activated from Greensboro's 7-day DL and promoted to class High-A Jupiter. Right-handed pitcher Rick Vanden Hurk has also been promoted to Jupiter. Baxter has been with Greensboro since the start of the season. In his 11 starts for the Hoppers, he was 1-3 with a 4.15 ERA. He allowed 57 hits and 34 runs in 56.1 innings pitched. Baxter is ranked in top lists amongst the South Atlantic League and Minor League Baseball. He currently holds the third spot in the South Atlantic League for most walks, dishing out 37. Baxter is second in all of the minor leagues for wild pitches giving out 16. Baseball America ranks Baxter as Florida's 27th prospect in the Marlins organization. He was originally ranked as the fifth prospect before he blew out his elbow and required Tommy John surgery. The surgery improved Baxter's game as his fastball began reaching 98 mph, three mph faster than before surgery. Baxter was selected by the Florida Marlins in the third round of the 2001 draft. Rick Vanden Hurk, a native of Eindhover, Holland, has been with the Greensboro team since late May. He joined the Hoppers from extended spring training and is 1-2 with a 2.45 ERA while with Greensboro. He started four games getting in 22.0 innings on the mound. He gave up 17 hits and seven runs, while striking out 26 batters. The 19-year-old was a non-drafted Free Agent in the 2002 draft.
June 20, 200521 yr I expected Vanden Hurk to get called back up to Jupiter quickly, he pitched well there last year. It'll be very interesting to see how Vargas makes the transition to AA. I think he'll do fine. Man, that Carolina staff is sick. Especially when Kensing comes back, which won't be for awhile unfortunately.
June 20, 200521 yr sonovabitch! I wanted to see Vargas. 818274[/snapback] Does anyone else wonder if god forbid, another injury hits the rotation, Vargas will be the one to get promoted?

June 20, 200521 yr Vargas > Kensing and Bazardo. I wouldnt mind trading both Bazardo and Kensing at the deadline. The top 3 pitchers I like in our system right now are Scott Olsen, Jason Vargas, and Josh Johnson.
June 20, 200521 yr Wow Vargas is moving up ladder, The "Tank"would have been right behind if not for the injuries Glad to see Allen Baxter is back, but his control is something that has to be worked on.
