Wow...he had the Fish off-balance all night...they didn't hit the ball hard once all night. Gotta give props to the old man for one of the best outings I've ever seen him pitch. Hopefully the Fish can rebound to win the last two games of this set.

BS. The Marlins have made every pitcher look good this year. Give props to Smoltz when he can do that against a hot team like the Phils and Nats this year, not us struggling Fish. :mad

Like I said in the game thread,

Smoltz pitched his game. I had flashbacks to 1995 tonight.

Smoltz did a heck of a job mixing in his pitches. Marlins were fooled all day.

When he is on, he is on.

Um...he kept every pitch down in the zone, changed speeds well, and stayed ahead in the count most of the game. I'd say he had a great outing and most teams would've struggled to put up runs on him tonight...Yeah, the Marlins bats haven't exactly been red-hot, but there are actually times where the opposing pitcher flat-out beats you...tonight was one of those nights. And if AJ threw a shutout, everyone here would be praising him and saying he had a great game...what's wrong with acknowledging a good outing by the other team?

Because mostly every team has looked like a good team against us! :lol I have no problem giving props to good teams, but ML pitchers can make a highlight reel on how bad theyve made the Marlins look this year. Hall of fame pitcher or farm system temp: We cant score for sh!t! :lol

wait till you see the minor league pitchers that are going to face the marlins the next two days, you will think Cy Young has reincarnated.

Or Bugs Bunny is pitching. :lol

We couldn't do anything against Smoltz. We sucked today. Only 5 hits, that's horrible. And the Braves made 3 errors and we couldn't capitalize on any of them, very sad.

Jeff had a good game though. But we got hurt at the top of the lineup with JP and Castillo. Combined they went 0-8. We need them to get on base if we want to score runs. We also didn't get any hits from our 5-6-7 men. That can't happen either.

Every Brave had a basehit except for Smoltz and Langerhans, but only Orr had more than 1 basehit, lol.

Smoltz is a great big-game pitcher, AJ Burnett is not. The Braves execute fundemental baseball and the Marlins do not. Typically we can write this off as a loss in ATL versus a great pitcher except for the fact that when you lose games against beatable teams and beatable pitchers you need to make it up by beating good teams and good pitchers....even in their ballpark.

Damn right.

Burnett might be 28 but he is so immature. Willis and Beckett have breezed by him in maturity.

He still think he's gonna blow everyone away.

Well he has to use his fastball a lot, because without it he's nothing. I remember when Josh used to rely on his fastball a lot and he would always get hurt and allow homers. I think he needs to give AJ tips on developing another pitch so as to not have to always throw the fastball. The hitters always guess fastball with AJ. They know it's coming, and that's a problem. He has to develop more pitches that he could throw with confidence, like he throws his fastball. If he is able to add another great pitch then hitters won't be so sure as to his next pitch and he'll be more dominant.

I guess maturity in Beckett's case is yelling after every bad play and breaking stuff every inning in the clubhouse. :lol

I give props to Smoltz tonight. He mixed his pitches very well and made very few, if any, mistakes.

I totally agree the Marlins make a 10 year old kid look like Roger Clemens. The marlins need to grow some f***in balls and start going after pitchers, instead of eating so much s*** and making everyone look like a 12 game winner. :mad :mad

AJ can't be taught.

He'll go crying to the newspapers like he always does.

I think AJ is mature. He is a good pitcher, but can't be an ace. He has the stuff, but doesn't have the control to be dominant most of the time out there. Look at his road ERA also.

I'll be happy if AJ finishes with an ERA around 3.5

He's always either crying or screaming it seems. He could barely even smile before the game when asked. He smiled for a half a second and then put on his serious mad face. I don't think I like the type of person he is. But he hates the management and thinks he's a superstar so we probably won't keep him anyways.

From that statement I know you have never had blisters on your hand. Let me tell you a bit of how they feel.....IT IS ANNOYING!!

You can't grip anything well because of the damn blister. You can't concentrate on using your hands on even the most minute tasks because the blister makes it feel odd. The blister is not something you can live with. You must be rid of it.

Blisters during pitching is a big deal, but if Beck cant get rid of them, the Marlins might have to get rid of him.
