Posted June 26, 200519 yr Yesterday at the Gwynn's Island Festival, two teenage girls were giving away free kittens. Someone had given them a pregnant cat and they just wanted to find homes for the kittens. While I was in the pits at the lawnmower race, Lindsey was walking around and saw them. She showed them to me because I've been wanting to get a cat for a long time. Well, I sat down for about 15 minutes and picked one and now I have him here at home. His name is Caesar! He shall be great. He's really cute and I hope to have some pictures up soon. Does anybody have any advice on kittens/cats? He's 5 weeks old and so far things have gone pretty smoothly.
June 26, 200519 yr Whether it be a dog (teething) or a cat (they learn what claws can scratch)...have patience.
June 26, 200519 yr litter boix, obviously, water better than milk, milk would be like a once in a long while treat... it messes with their stomachs.. cat food.. lol... some cat nip if he ever gets waay to board.. but dont use it while hes sleeping.. they got to sleep... if u do things right, he'll be with you a while... he cat died 3 years ago, but she was 21 in human years.. :angel :crying
June 26, 200519 yr Cats are awesome. I haven't had a kitten in ages. My cats are old geriatric types now.
June 26, 200519 yr I have 5 cats and that's plenty -_- They have their own little room(patio that we converted into a room) and I've recently(maybe a year ago, I've had them all my life) gotten allergies. Luckily you got a male cat. Females are a bitch especially when they are in heat.
June 26, 200519 yr My cat just had four kittens. She has had two litters but they died because she has brain damage, she has brain damage because a car ran over her once and she survived it.
June 26, 200519 yr As a die hard dog lover, I got a cat (I now actually have two) almost three years ago. Bandit is a joy. Play with them. Don't expect them to be aloof. Kiss them and hold them and tell them you love them. Play with them and give them plenty of cat treats. A kitten would like the soft ones rather than the hard ones. Get some of both and try them. An occasional treat of some tuna or salmon is appreicated. Get the water dish that they lick and more water comes out. It's a lot fresher than water sitting out for 2-3 days before you change it. They will jump. If you cat is an indoor cat, get Purina Indoor cat formula. That 's what the vet recommended. Less ash in the food and far less kidney/bladder problem in the future. Take it to the vet- get it all it's shots.
June 26, 200519 yr 1-Play with it a lot or it will hate you 2-feed it--make sure it always has food 3-Clean its litter out 4-Be prepared to put up with kitteny smells 5-Let them sleep on you 6-And have your face attacked on a regular basis for no more reason than that you were breathing
June 26, 200519 yr 6-And have your face attacked on a regular basis for no more reason than that you were breathing 826887[/snapback] *Remembers not to breathe near a cat*

And surprisingly, they try and "kill" these things like it was a game. You really got to watch out with them.
June 26, 200519 yr Author Thanks for the advice, I have gotten everything a cat could ever want including a scratching post. He's going to be indoor since I'm a college student.

June 26, 200519 yr My parents are too darn lazy to get our chihuahua fixed, so he marks his territory all over the house and my feet feel the effects.

June 27, 200519 yr I just got two kittens....they are 9 weeks now. They eat moistened kitten food and sometimes I will mix it with some canned food because they don't always like the dry food.Put him in his litterbox right after he eats because your kitten is still young and may still have accidents.Toys are good, like mice and balls.Have fun!
