I don't think Europe is too keen on helping Russia, especially since its government continues to be in danger of returning to authoritarian status.

I just said they wouldn't be too keen on it. And the EU IMHO makes dictatorships look good just for sheer fact of bureaucratic lunacy and mismanagement of everything and anything.

June 28, 200521 yr This thread has gottne long, its interesting to see the interest people here have about the situation in Asia. Not long ago I sat down for a lecture that was given by a chinese university professor (Dr. Lee was his name dont remember his given name) The professor was actually weary of increasing japanese power, and claimed that that 'fear of japan was common throughout the chinese intellectual and govt community. Anyway on to war with the US and china. Like jackarmstrong said, I doubt that there would be any kind of conventional warfare against the chinese. China has no need to attack russia or any western country. At most what may happen is that an imminent attack on taiwan means that china would be at the negotiating table with the west, and may stand to gain from that. Without the US china's economy will falter heavily and without china the US's economy will also hurt. I doubt either country wnats to be in that situation. Two capitalistic trade partners have never gone to war, and i doubt that the taiwan debate will change this. Furthermore, if China as an aggressor invades Taiwan, you better believe they will feel the force of the EU and the US, including Japan. For as powerful as china can become they cannot match the military developments of the US (and EU by proxy) that have been improving and continue to do so as they have been for over 70 years. But IMO and probably that of many scholars, conventional war w us and china wont occur. A sort of 'cold' war may occur, but even then it wont last too long, we are too important to china and vice versa
June 28, 200521 yr China has a very bad weakness that we all should know about. The health of the population is bad percentage wise. HIV infection rates are higher than in the African nations and we simply do not know what other things may be affecting the Chinese people. SARS and pneumonia have been very common in China in the past 2 years. The Bird Flu is also seen as a danger into China.
