June 30, 200521 yr From his Sentinel article today: If the Marlins really want to shake things up, they'll send for their best hitting prospect as well, Carolina right fielder Jeremy Hermida. He's reaching base 45 percent of the time, eighth-best in the minors, and has 13 homers. Often compared to a young Paul O'Neill, Hermida also has 17 stolen bases in 18 tries, a big arm, improving range, a smooth lefty stroke and more walks than strikeouts. But is Hermida, the Marlins' first-round pick in 2002, ready for the majors? "He's as ready as Miguel Cabrera was two years ago," one esteemed talent evaluator said this week. And all Cabrera did after his June 20 call-up was wind up hitting cleanup in the World Series. Olsen, while admittedly biased, gave an equally flattering scouting report on his former Mudcats teammate, who's also 21. "He's got every tool you need," Olsen said. "The numbers are all there. He's the real deal. I wouldn't be surprised to see him up here shortly." What's that? There's nowhere for Hermida to play? As the Braves know so well, talent finds a way to fit in. Why not play Hermida in right until he proves he can't handle big-league pitching? Who sits? Not Cabrera, certainly. But the ever-creative Marlins could find a way to rotate four scuffling vets -- Juan Encarnacion, Jeff Conine, Mike Lowell and Juan Pierre -- through two lineup slots. Ideally, they could even trade one of their excess outfielders for some much-needed relief help. If they want to end the Braves' reign, it's time for the Marlins to steal a few of their tricks. He also repeated as much on Hank Goldberg's show this morning, as well as the idea of getting Willingham's bat in the lineup from time to time. What's everyone think? Too early? I may as well get down off the Willingham soap box for now, and trying to rotate 5 (or even 6 if Josh is thrown in) players between 2 or 3 positions could also turn out to be a mess, but that's why Beinfest makes the big bucks....
June 30, 200521 yr I would love him up there, but so he can do what ride the pine and pinch hit here and there? Until we move Enc, we dont need him really. I think perhaps if we can move Enc then we can deal with him up here to spot start with Connie. Send down Willingham then in the mean time. But, I would personally rather have Chris Aguila up.

June 30, 200521 yr I would love him up there, but so he can do what ride the pine and pinch hit here and there? 833211[/snapback] ...as the article said...Berardino believes he should start in right until he absolutely flounders, while rotating Lowell, Pierre, Conine, and Encarnacion in 2 lineup spots.
June 30, 200521 yr In the short term I'd bring up Aguila over Hermida right now, he's certainly more major league ready. My comment shouldn't be read as anti-Hermida or aganst bringing the kid up.

But, there is no rush for this kid, dont ruin him. Aguila is ready to play up here already, he was playing fine earlier in the year up here too. Give the kid another shot. It is working for the braves, why not us too?
June 30, 200521 yr Forget Aguila, i would like to see willingham get some AB's in right before they bring up hermedia.
