Maybe Tank and another prospect would be enough. He's expendable if Olsen/Vargas work out. We're set at SP with Johnson, Allison and our latest draft picks.

Better safe than sorry. I'd rather not trade young pitching prospects for a 3 month rental at this point. I'm still upset we traded Bill Murphy.

 

And of all those guys, Allison and Johnson would be the two I'd trade first. Allison will amount to a nobody in the big leagues, mark my words in stone, bury them, and dig them up 20 years from now.

 

And Johnson is at best a #3 starter on a mediocre team.

 

Tank, Olsen, and Vargas are all going to be studs though.

I figured as much when every deal I caught wind of was 2-3 prospects for Wagner. I still think Howard will be dealt sometime...not necissarily to the Sox...but to someone...

If their smart....which their not.....they'll deal Thome to an AL team who could use him as a DH.....Unlike what i said before, Howard looks like the real deal and yes i admit i was wrong about him.

 

The strong rumors out of Philly have them lookin at how much Abreu could get them and J-Roll to the Giants for Jason Schmidt after they get Hanley from the Sox.

And I heard about them trying to deal Thome but he is basically dead weight now as they would swallow a considerable chunk of his contract....but no one came close to biting...that guy is done.

I would welcome Billy on the staff here. Last time the Phillies were here I stopped watching part of the game because he was warming up in the pen and I was lucky enough to be right above it. My Lord his gas is incredible.

 

As far as the scenario laid out by fishfaninpa.....why do the Phils trade Thome, Abreu, Rollins, and Wagner.....and then turn around to nab Jason Schmidt? How can a team be that stupid?

Ed Wade is on his deathbed....obviously their not dealin Abreu unless the deal is perfect but their making calls.

I doubt philly owuld trade wagner to the marlins. Although they are struggling enough of late to make a deal like that possible. Furthermore, I dont think theyd want mota, theyd want younger guys most likely to rebuild. Regardless, wagner would be awesome to have, but unless we can keep him long term theres no use trading for him.
