July 16, 200521 yr I don't understand how the Marlins begin talking to Dontrelle who can't leave for at least 4 more years, yet they haven't even contacted Burnett who is a free agent next year. Also, the Marlins should not sign Cabs to a deal now. He is locked up cheaply for 5 years; there is no reason to sign him to a big deal. 858079 First, Dontrelle is much better than Burnett and is the most polished 23 year old pitcher in baseball. Second, Cabrera is not locked up cheaply for 5 years. He's locked up cheaply for next year, then he will become arbitration eligible, which basically means the Marlins will almost certainly have to pay him at least in the $8-10 million/year range.
July 16, 200521 yr I'm surprised the Marlins haven't done more to get some of these young guys into contracts for a few years...Cabs, Willis, Beckett, etc.
July 16, 200521 yr First and foremost we should lock up Cabs for a LONG, LONG, LONG time. 10 years $100 mill, perhaps... :mischief2 858040 That's a hell of a contract. You're probably just as cut throat as Boras is. :mischief 858059 10 million a year for a young great ballplayer like Cabrera is nothing...welcome to 2005. 858065 Well for this team it is. But if they are as committed to the future as they say they are, it shouldn't be anything.
July 16, 200521 yr i agree...great news and lets sign cabs to a very long deal...even if most of the money is backloaded and comes later in his contract...but come on FO lets get this done 858045 yep cabrera and willis are a MUST to sign to long-term deals
